thin roll for cash, imo.
maybe with less than max buy-in at 10NL or 10PL, but the rake there is...well let's just say they don't give you any vaseline. I played a bunch of hands at 10NL, and I won at about 2BB/100, so I'm not very good, but I won almost $50, and payed $186 in rake!
i'm at $140 and ima play SNG's until i'm rolled for 25NL...about $500 or so. Long, boring grind, imo, but I refuse to deposit. |

| That's just about the recommended minimum for $0.25/$0.50 (300 BBs). I don't know about MTTs; I generally play cash games anyway. |

Yeah, if you want to play limit cash, .25/.5 is the only reasonable choice. You should be fine with 360 BBs at those stakes if you're a significant winner, since they're more passive than higher stakes. That in combination with the bigger edge you can get there lowers the risk of a big downswing a lot.
Edit: NVM didn't see that you were talking about stud. From what I've heard/read, variance is lower in those games, especially stud8, so you should be fine at .25/.5 with that roll.

To me, it would depend on what you're good at and what you feel like playing... Hopefully for you, that's the same game!
At the lower levels, the Razz game is soft, just play straightforward and grow your bankroll. I tend to get bored with the split pot games when I get halved too often, but that's me. If you're good at every game, and want to play limit, I'd go for the HORSE since you're sure to find people at those tables who are weak at one or more games... in my experience this tends to be Razz in a HORSE game.
Best of luck,
Fran |

| Play satellites to the sunday night horse IMO. This would be a great way to be able to play a big game of horse and also if you get lucky and win the ticket early in your roll you have a chance to continue playing while waiting for sunday night to arrive. |

Ya... don't do that.
I agree variance is low at the .25/.5 limit tables, and it seems the quality of play at that level of stud hi/low is very low and profitable. Not sure how much you like omaha games, but I find them fun too (normally playing the limit ones)... and they're pretty soft. Yes, $5 would be good for mtts. |
