I was wondering, for you more experienced players that grind the Token Tourney Steps (From the 18 man Step 1- the $75 Token buy in SNGs), what is a good hourly rate/roi/any sort of finance lingo that I am still learning for each of your steps. I would love to hear from all those willing to spend the time giving their feedback whether you are a winning player or not.
You may recognize my name at Full Tilt if you play the token sngs often so feel free to say whats up or give me any feed back whatsoever. I am pretty much just starting a part time poker career and have had mild success in the sngs so far. I love the idea of these forums though, so I thought I would stop by and say hello to everyone who participates.
Thanks and look forward to your responses!

I think that ROI isn't that important when it comes to these token tournys. ROI can be distorted when the tokens come into play. So if I had 5 $75 tokens and converted them to tourny $$$, all I would need to be happy with is once all the tourny dollars are gone to have more $75 tokens than I started with. It's actually possible to have a negative ROI but still increase your token count. I've been working on a plan with these token tournys now for 1 1/2 years and I've gone from 0-50 $75 tokens.
The only suggestion that I would make to you is to "not" play the tier 1 tournys. I think they wasted a ton of my time and really didn't get any further ahead. Then I started to buy in direct at tier 2 and in 2 months I got further ahead then I did in over a year.
Now I've started to play all of my $75 tokens in tier 3 and the 9 person satellites to the $750 to convert them to tourny $$$ and once I convert them all to cash I should have a decent bankroll. My goal is to have between $4K-$5K in real money within a month. It's a tough grind but I felt it was worth having a plan rather than having no plan and playing $20 sngs with no goal. |

I used to do that quite successfully - I'd do the 18 person SNGs for $6 to get a $26 token, use those to get a $75 token, which I'd cash out by playing the single table $75 token SNGs. I only had to even place in one of the $75 token-to-cash SNGs to break even on almost 25 attempts at a $24 token, and all the levels were really quite soft, even the $75 SNGs, as strange as I thought it was - probably because everyone there was doing what I was and converting their original $6 investment into big monies.
I'd post my sharkscope, but for some reason it doesn't display any of my >$24 tournies (odd, since I made over a grand just in the $69+6 token SNGs, and posted about it here, at the time ), so they're ****ing useless, as far as I can tell. Probably why they still have me at a negative ROI, even though my databases tell me my token winnings put me quite profitable at the SNGs. Stupid ****s. |

Yep. you can still win tokens and move ahead but still have a negative ROI.
I find the 18 person tier 3 better than the 9 person for cash. They both pay 1/3 of the people but only the winner of the 9 person does better than the $216 tourny $$$ for 1-5 in the 18 person game. I just found it easier to move up the ladder with my bankroll if I didn't have to outright win it.
I did find that the tier 1 games were filled with donks and it was like dodging bullets every time I played. Even if you converted 33% of the time you are basically breaking even with just buying in directly to tier 2. I found I wasted a lot of time in tier 1. |
