I used to be a fan of the small, usually Asian run, computer stores that sell non-branded computers. After all, a computer is only as good as the components inside. But, right now you can find some very good, pretty powerful, units at places like Best Buy. That's where I bought my last computer.
If you want what's best for poker I suggest buying a cheap computer, so you can afford a nice monitor. A 24" monitor can display 4 tables at default size, with no overlap. Or, you can play 2 tables and comfortably surf the web or run a program like Word, with no overlap.
A good, affordable system for a poker player would look something like this:
desktop - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8775809&type=product&id=1204331848308
monitor - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8775783&type=product&id=1204331848176
For less than $1000 this system is **** tight! |

I just picked up a laptop for $600 at Best Buy. It's a Dell Inspiron 1525. I absolutely love it. 3GB processor, 250GB Hard Drive, 15.4" widescreen...It's super fast for multi-tasking and great for poker...although mutli-tabling would be better with a 24". |

| Just get a computer no monitor but make sure the comp has S-video output then attach it to a nice new big screen. Looks amazing can sit far away if you want or play like 10 tables at once lol. |
