| I was just wondering what everyone's views on starting hands for Stud Hi are. Stud Hi is by far my worst game, and I would like to improve on it. If anyone could give me a range of decent starting hands that would be great. |

| Read the Stud section in super system. It talks about good starting hands for beginners and how to play them based on action ahead of you. |

| The basics. Trips, Big Pairs, three Big cards to a flush, three big cards to a straight. Of course there's always exceptions to the rules, but's that not basic now is it? |

Alright, I feel like bumping this because I would like to know what some examples are, and whether my thoughts are too tight or too loose:
When I play stud, I feel like my starting hand selection is tighter than in any other game I play. Here are basically the only starting hands I play:
Trips (obviously)
3 to a flush
a pair (unless small and I see one of my other paired cards on someone's board)
Sometimes, I will play 3 high cards (AKJ), or 3 cards to a straight (678), depending on the boards I'm seeing.
Am I being to conservative, or is this about right? |

Your question is faaaaar too general. You don't play a hand b/c of the hand, you play a hand compared to how it looks based on what cards are out. It also depends on what stakes you play. The higher you play, the more aggressive you can be with marginal hands like AJT if all your cards are higher than other's door cards. I don't see how that list of hands you said you play could be construed as too tight. Sometimes I won't play 3 flushes if my cards are dead or there is a ton of action ahead of me. There are many times I won't play a pair if my cards are dead or even if there are a lot of high cards behind me. I've folded 9s and 10s to no action simply b/c there was 3 or 4 higher cards left to act behind me. If you want a better answer, post some hh or just make up a situation with other people's door cards. |

| I just started playing stud. I play tight. If the first three cards aren't some of the mentioned above, or I see cards that are out, that I need I fold it up. Rarely go past 4th street if there are raises behind me. I don't try to bluff, If I don't have it, I don't play it. So far this has been profitable for me. I seem to do better at this than holdem. I've seen some stupis plays by ppl who can oviously see someone has 4 cards to a flush showing, betting heavy, and yet ppl keep betting against it because they are looking for that 4th A that is already out. If the person with the flush cards turns out to be bluffing, I have still saved myself a few cents to find out wether or not he was. MHO. |
