I haven't been playing omaha long, I deal holdem for a living but have just been getting into omaha.. today on a ring game, only me and 1 other player were left in, I raised with the nuts, ace flush- he called with 2 pair.. and he won.. whats the rule that I do not know of here?

| In omaha you play two whole cards, therefore you had AK high and lost to his two pair. |

Yes, 2 of your cards and 3 of the board. Since you use only and exactly 2 cards, PLO hands at the river can be written with the last two cards as xx since only two are used.
For omaha, you need to know what is and what is not possible in any hand. For this hand, without 3 of any suit present on the board there can be no flush. On this board, there is also no straight possible. So the best possible hand is 22xx, followed by QQxx, 99xx, 77xx, Q2xx and so forth.
Your best 5 cards are the 22Q from the board and your AK in your hand, you should have folded by the flop if not before. His best 5 cards are the same 22Q from the board and the 88 in his hand... he should have also folded at some point, since he can't beat you if you have any 2, any 9, any Q or any pair higher than his 88. |
