just remembered the little story, where he sent me $500 by accident and wrote me very gently what happened. But i was in the process of moving, so i couldn't log into the internet for a couple of days. After i had a connection i checked the forum. There was only one little PM as a reminder. He never got upset or wrote 1000's mails & PMs, just 1 message. I sent him his money back, we had a little laugh, and he said never at one second he thought he might get scammed.

Thats a great story of a great man. I read alot of his post over at 2+2 and he is a terrific guy.
Sad this.

I have worked for abominable for 4 years. Abominable was my mentor, friend, and guiding hand. He had a reputation that preceded his character, and both were defined by his integrity.
In the past few years that I have worked for abominable, I often thought he was working on whatever "assignment" I had given him for the morning, largely in part because I heard his fingers slamming on the keyboard vigorously. It didn't take me long to find out that abominable had taken a liking to the poker forum's. I would walk into his office everyday and he would be continuing a "thread" that he had started at 4 a.m. that day... seems that his disgust for scammers and his desire to help other's in a game he loved more than most thing's in life were more important than actual work...
He truly loved poker and his new friend's that he made on this forum. That is why I decided to check the forum out today... to see whether his cyber community of friend's had heard of his untimely death. I was grateful that Clamper 13 had spread the word. In fact, Clamper 13 was a man that abominable truly respected... so much so that he gave out his personal office number to Clamper 13 in order to receive a call from Clamper regarding a possible scammer. I will never forget the day I answered the office line and the voice on the other end indicated it "Clamper 13 calling" and please have abominable call him back! When I told abominable that Clamper 13 had called he smiled, winked, and gave his unforgettable cackle, the kind of laugh he gave when he was "on to something".
It was at that moment that I realized abominable's poker forum had become a fixture in his life... and his overwhelming desire to help anyone and everyone he came into contact with had taken over. So much for any work getting done!
Abominable taught me to play poker, we had a "partnership" account, and all win's and losses were split between us... that was the only way I would ever have any money, if he was "driving".
He is missed greatly by myself and many other's... and I want to thank all of you for your kind words and great memories of abominable on the poker forum. You brought a smile to my face, which has been hard to do this week.
Thank you Clamper for advising abominable's friend's of his passing and for trying to coordinate a donation in his name. He had a great respect for you, please carry on cracking the scammer's.
And in true Abominable fashion,
"May the sets be with you and gl at the tables sir"
And for those of you that were fond of him, he was fond of you as well, he very much enjoyed communicating with you. And while he would have never told you while conducting "official" forum business, he was...
James Whalen, Attorney at Law
you can learn more about him, as a person, as an advocate, as a man of integrity, and his life's work at:
childcustody.net
He created his website as a public service for anyone faced with family law issues, child custody and divorce because he didn't want anyone to have to pay $250 to learn something that he could provide for free.
That was abominable, a man willing to go without so that other's could have what he could offer at as little as a cost to them. I hope to carry on abominable's tradition in the legal community as a recent law school graduate, a protege of abominable if you will... |

You are most welcome <grin>
It was very humbling for me to log on and read what you all thought of a man who has influenced me as a person, everyday, and will continue to do so each and every day. |

i just heard about this last night when i stumbled upon the thread in his honor on 2+2...needless to say i was stunned
i really dont know what to say other than to just echo the sentiments of everyone else before me in this thread
i had several interactions with him on the forum and through private messages and it was simply an honor doing business with someone who had such high morals and integrity
RIP, my friend (maybe "friend" isnt the best word since we didnt know each other that well, but i did feel like i could trust you as much as i do my closest real world friend)

I remember one of my threads - http://pokerforums.fulltiltpoker.com/online-poker-play58037.html
Abominable responded to it and his response was so kind and helpfull to me, that I didn't know how to react, so I said just "thank you very much". From that one thread it is clear that he was a great person and that if I rememeber him for months, people who knew him better will remember him for ages. Rest in peace. |

Damn man first time I visit in awhile and I hear THIS?! Sick! Hearing a valued person of any forum has passed is not exactly what you look forward to when you come back to visit! |

Clamper...
Maybe we could host a tournament like a $2 + $5 or something and have the proceeds go to a charity that his family chooses? Just an idea.
I didn't know abominable other than seeing his name and posts on this forum but I know he was an asset around here. My prayers are with his family. |
I love this idea of a tourney with proceeds going to charity, etc. |
I've emailed the tournaments department and this will be setup. I'll post details once it's created. |
Gypsy, have you gotten any details on this yet? Just wondering... |

I just happened to run across this page tonight, scanning around some as I'm new to the forums and not quite sure how they work or what to look at/for (any helpful hints will be appreciated!).
My sincere condolences to abominable's family and friends, and it sounds like he had a lot. And to you, disbarred, as it sounds as if you've lost a good and true friend.
I didn't have the pleasure of reading or communicating with abominable, but I sure wish I would have. There seem to be so few "real" guys around any more, and those with an honest heart are even more rare. Wish there were more decent human beings, especially in the new era of poker brought about by the Hold Em craze in the past few years, and on-line gaming.
I learned how to play poker at the Horseshoe in LV when it was still just the Horseshoe, before it bought out the Mint even, so you know that was a while ago! Used to see Jack Binion eating dinner downstairs at the first booth up the couple of stairs (the one with the phone...well before cell phones!), and hearing him being paged day and night throughout the casino. I was afraid the first few times I sat down, very intimidated. There wasn't any "practice" then...you just watched then sat down and played. The main game then was 7-card Stud. I got my only two Royals there my first year...both spades!
Anyway, the point is that guys played "by the rules"...equitably, fairly, with poker etiquette and decent treatment of each other. Tough, to be sure. Definitely not like it is today.
It sounds like abominable was one of the original nice guys. He didn't need to be a jerk to be a good poker player.
I hope his legacy continues to be passed down by those who knew him and respected the way he not only played the game of poker, but the game of life.
Here's a tip of the hat to you, sir.
With respect,
NASCAR4433 |
