I was the short stack with four players remaining in a 9 player SNG last night. I had 1470 chips and the blinds were 100/200, so I had about 7 BBs left. I hadn't been getting any good cards and I was starting to get a little desperate. I didn't want to get blinded out, so I decided to start playing a little (maybe a lot) more aggressive. QT off looked like the best hand I'd had in a while, so I raised, but I wasn't too confident, so I only minraised. I think a bigger raise (like 600) would have been better here. I probably wouldn't have been called. But bozo with a K3s called my minraise from the big blind. Ace and King came up on the flop and I was mad at myself. I thought I had just cost myself the tournament. Bozo raised all in, so I put him on an ace for sure. If I folded, I would be down to 1070 chips (5 BBs) and crippled, so I just pushed to put myself out of my misery. Well, I found a jack on the river and doubled up on bozo. He called me pathetic.
Let's think about this for a minute. I was short stacked with high blinds (about to go even higher), so I really didn't have much choice. I was going to be forced into a move very soon, so playing a twenty seems like a "best chance" kind of call to me. Meanwhile, bozo called my raise with a K3. Even suited that's not a great call. So who's pathetic? Me for hitting my straight on the river, or him for playing the hand in the first place?
That hand put me in a much better position and I eventually won the tournament because of it. I guess sometimes you just have to risk it all to win it all.
Here's the hand:

My opinion-you both played the hand poorly.
You: 1) Q 10 against his random hand is an instant push from the sb based on those stack sizes and the blinds.
2) You are first to act and you min raised from the sb. You need to follow through on the flop. Check calling is about the worst thing you can do here. If you are calling his bet, make the bet and let him decide. You got lucky.
Him: 1) He has not enough gamble chips either. Your min raise with your stack should be a sign of strength yet he takes K3 to battle.
2) He flops middle pair no kicker, and bets the flop after your min raise check. If you caught any part of that flop he's beat, yet decides to push. While betting is always a strong play, he can't afford to be wrong. |

| If you are playing the QT here, you shove. WTF is a min raise going to do? You want him folding better hands that aren't good enough to call an all in here, especially near the bubble. You gave him a reason to call and see a flop. A shove probably gets him to fold his K3. |

| You guys are both right. I realized it after I posted this. The correct move for me was to push all in preflop. By minraising like I did, I risked my tournament life. I got lucky this time. Hopefully I'll get it right next time. |
