So, to try to get some more activity going in this forum, I've decided to make a regular Good, Bad and Ugly(GBU) post. They will consist of three hand histories. A good one, bad one and ugly one(ugly hands to me are borderline trainwrecks. They are winning hands, but not necessarily well played or losing hands that were well played.). I think the concept has some potential.
Any of the hand's merits are up for discussion/debate/critique. Try to provide some reasoning, it's a key part of the process.
Anyone is welcome to post a GBU in the O8 forums.

The Good: The only thing I don't like about this hand is that there is three spades. But at a 5 handed table it's not a big deal even UTG. Obviously NH.
The Bad: Ugh, you have KK and a terrible low / flush type hand that could carry some really high reverse implied odds. What's worse then you overplaying your hand is the fact that you were actually ahead until the river somehow when you checked. So that's really good that you didn't put any money at all in while you were behind. I really hate the turn bet though. It's one of those times where, unless you know this player gets aggressive with high hands and only calls w/ low hands, You're really just throwing money in and praying for a fold. However in this one case like I already stated somehow you actually got called by worse.
The Ugly: With the exception of the missing low draw from your hand, this is a pretty sweet flop for you, you have the nice wrap draw and back door clubs so I like calling the flop, especially since people like to bet low draws so much. On the turn you pick up that club draw and definitely have to call I think. There's always the chance that they're just betting a pair of aces or a low. On the river though I think you have to c/r and get max value. If you bet all the bluffs fold and you're probably only getting called if you split the pot. However if you check, some weird two pair or top pair hands might feel inclined to bet and rep the flush. Then raising when you know you're getting half the pot becomes a great play. |

Shorthanded limit, this is a big hand. Shorthanded PL, it's a monster that loves to be played fast.

From the CO+, KKxx is a pretty standard raise in an unopened pot for me, especially if there are some TAG's following. I prefer xx to be suited and/or coordinated with the KK, but in position, it's as much of a steal as anything else. If I get reraised(very uncommon), I can dump it or look to float a flop. Post flop, I'm c-betting a ton of boards. If I hit a K, even better.
I agree that the turn is where it turned south. It was a 2nd barrel bluff, but at the wrong time. Should've just checked behind there or bet a little less.

I don't like to play these too fast OOP because of the low draw. If the A was paint instead, I'm jamming for sure. But, because of the low draw, and the fact that I don't have a made hand with 2 cards to come, I was a little hesitant. Calling the potted turn wasn't so hot. The FD was a great addition, but it was a low, so I may be only drawing for 1/2 pot. Not a great idea. I'm not even sure if I bet too much on the river or not. If I made a worse high only hand fold, that's bad. If I made a qualifying low fold, it's a good bet. Maybe it's just a wash. FWIW, I hate check/raising the river. Against certain LAG's I'll do it, but I have to be confident they'll bet. Otherwise, I'm missing either way too many bets or giving up way too many half pots. |
