As you know, the house is about to vote and vote to ban online poker. It seems pretty set in stone now. The senate will probably follow pretty quickly. Its not looking good at all for us poker playing fanatics.

It's hard for me to get excited about playing any games of poker with this looming. I don't know why but its like that with me. If/when it gets banned, I will not know what to do. Poker is by far my favorite thing to do, and I look forward to it from the time I get up in the morning. There are no local poker facilities around me, and after playing online I cant imagine playing slow live games anyway. I'm really depressed about it all. I hate the people that are going to take this away from us.

Yes I am a member of the PPA, and have sent a letter which I'm sure wasn't even read.

I feel the same way you do. No poker facilities around my area, and I too would be hard-pressed to find something else to do. I will be making sure I let my congressman or w/e let him know how I will be voting next time around.

This whole subject is depressing. I have done everything I feel in my power I can do. I have sent out the letters and become part of the PPA. Now I feel I just have to sit, wait, cross my fingers, and play as much as I can.

I have loved poker since ~1972. It took a long time before poker made it to the internet and I got to play to my heart's content....but it happened. (Most of my life I have lived in a poker wasteland.)

If online poker does in fact get banned it won't stay that way forever. True it may take 10-20 years before it is legal again, but you can survive...I did. And in the mean time you can save up for regular trips to LV or AC. Get serious about organizing a regular home game...or just bounce your internet traffic off of a server in Great Britian.

People are a lot more upset by identity theft and online perverts than they are poker playing. The vast majority of us have played in home games in states were such games are clearly illegal. Anybody notice the cops regularly raiding home games? Sure, they bust one now and again--but mostly they ignore the home games if no one makes any other trouble. Online poker will be the same...there will be the occassional bust of an online player, but as a whole nothing much is going to be done by law enforcement....they have real criminals to catch and that's exactly what the public is going to tell them when they bust the local good citizen for playing $10NL online.

When those token players are busted make sure to send $10 or $20 to their legal defense fund. Make sure to write letters to the editor of every newspaper talking about the grand waste of resources stopping $10NL players when there are rapists still loose and terrorists threatening.

I really hope this doesn't go through. Both for the sake of you guys and for selfish reasons. What would online poker be without the millions of American donkeys that keep pumping new money into the industry?

How will this actually affect sites like FullTilt? Granted, most players are probably from the US, but I am in the UK, so will this ruling affect me directly, or purely indirectly through less players being on the sites?

If the law does get passed, I highly doubt they'll be monitoring everyone's ISP traffic although supposedly they will be setting up some kind of watchdog department I think. Most likely what they're going to do is force the US banks to block money transfers to and from online sites. Can't wager if you can't get money in or out.

Probably only the major sites will survive. Stars, Party and probably UB as they have the next largest traffic. Maybe FT and Paradise. Players will gravitate towards the larger traffic sites to seek action.

Where there's a will there's a way. I can already see offshore poker proxies and poker banks looming on the horizon.

Basically you pay a fee (as w all services) to use a foreign bank to which you will send/receive paper checks. God I hope not. That's just barbaric.
