Hey, don't knock 7-5o! I haven't read the Hellmuth book, but that hand is surely in his top 10, isn't it? At least it's clearly a premium hand.

wat r these players screen names, i would be more than happy to sit with them. u have to learn to take ur beats in stride and play ur odds. remember in the long run u will come out on top against these "donkeys". bad beats suck and we've all had our share of getting cracked against fish and donkeys and it sure does suck.

I agree -w- and sympathize -w- you. I get so ticked off -w- all the slotplayers that seem to overwhelm every site...not just FTP...They go all in -w- crap...then they suckout the miracle to beat a way better hand..then they act as if they know how to play the game...It is ANNOYING. But keep your cool...play your game...an eventually, you will put the donkeys back in thier barns. Wink

I think in the long run of cash games you will come out ahead. If you are like me and play almost strictly tourneys its not necessarily true. You cant reload and try to get your money back, so everytime your one donk away from startin over at 1500. If you follow the 5%-10% rule, you would have money to reload and attack the fish and get your money back plus some. I really admire tourney players who are successful. I have won about 5K over the last 18 months on MTT tourneys, and I consider myself average at best. Most of that came from $3K i won at party in a 1200 person $10 tourney. Here at full tilt I am findin it harder to bubble cause the amount of players in so much less, you really have to play solid for 3 hours to cash. Ive been playin the 18K guarentee alot lately. Normally I dont buy str8 in, I play the 18 person token where u have to play blind to not make top 5 and get in that way. I figure I am not going to cash in it, but I find it good practice, and it is helpin me to play better in the $10 400 person tourneys.

I just won $50 in an SNG about an hour ago when I cracked my opponent's A-A with 7-4 offsuit when I turned a straight Wink Most of the money went in the middle on the river, and after the showdown he said, "I couldn't dream of putting you on *that* hand!!" And that's the power of playing "crap" starting hands; they can actually be big money winners if played right.

You will never win a large MTT if you only play premium hands. You have to raise with drawing hands sometimes just to gain chips and of course bluff often enough to build a chip stack. A few weeks back i was in middle of tournament with an average stack and in middle postion with a 7 10 of hearts. I did a standard raise of 3X the BB. The small blind calls with pocket tens, which of course has me dominated. Of course he doesn't know he has me dominated pre-flop. Then the flop comes 6 8 9. You can see the kind of trouble he is in here and i eventually took all his chips (actually got runner runner hearts for the flush). So if you mix your game up you can have more success. It is a bit easier to fold 7 10 of hearts than it is to fold AA or KK.

Exactly why the pros often say hands like A-Q are horrible; TPTK is strong, but difficult to fold and you could be running into a trap. Hands like 2-4 trap hands like A-Q, and you can fold 2-4 in a second if you don't hit the flop strong.

Nevernuts, you can't just expect everyone to play only premium hands; you can pull a decent profit at the low stakes tables by playing ABC poker, but above that it's the people who successfully mix up their game that are the winners. You'd get eaten alive at higher stakes tables where everyone knows you play only A-J and above. Everyone and his brother knows what to do with A-A; knowing what to do with J-8, and outplaying your opponent's A-J with J-8, now *that* is good poker.

By the way, don't type in all caps.

Oh and I'm really interested in getting an answer to this question: how exactly does playing 5-7 disrespects the game of poker?

I do see your frustration, and thats exactly what happens to me every time, again and again. Yesterday one went all in with A-K, i had k-k, and to not fight anyone after me, i raise all in to......and what does the BB do ? Of c he went all in with.......5-5........gets his trips, do not tell me thats playing poker ? The man started saying "well either I get a good start or I dont play at all". Well m8, it hurts but nothing u can do about it, he took his chance, he got rewarded. In the long run ull beat "weaker" hands, and looking at the bad beats ive had, im still waiting for MY luck in the big tournys. have fun all.
