I was playing 4/8 Limit Hold Em a few weeks back (in a B&M casino) when an interesting hand came up. The action was folded around to me in middle position and I raised with pocket 8s. Everyone folded to the big blind, who called the additional $4 raise. The flop came out 8 4 4, making me a full house. He bet, I raised, and then he chuckled and re-raised. I was pretty sure he had some trash hand like J4o and he thought he had the best hand with trip 4s. I capped and he called.
The turn brought the final 4. Knowing I was most likely beat by quad 4s, I decided to simply call him down to the river with my full house. He bet, I called. The river came a blank, he bet, I called. Immediately, I flipped over my hand and said "Full House, 8s over 4s." Now the interesting part.....
He says, "I missed," in a quiet, dejected tone. Then flips over T4o for quad fours. "Quad fours." He says.
The pot gets rightfully scraped to him, I knew at the turn I was beat, I just didn't like his "I missed," comment.
About a half hour later, the same guy pulls the same "I missed," comment, before flipping over the nut full house (this time, not against me). I realize now this is his way of saying "I've got the best hand!!!" in a somewhat joking manner, but would it be right for me to say next time, "Please sir, next time you know you have the winning hand, don't tell your opponents you missed."
What do you all think?
Thank you very much.

He's being a scarcastic jerk, but he isn't misrepresenting his hand nor is he breaking any rules.

Suffer the fools gently.

akin to slow rolling. Not much you can do but keep composure and hope for the chance to return the favor.

What he did was another form of a slowroll because he gives the impression that he lost but actully has the nuts. Very bad sportsmanship, and a total a$$ IMO

I think a funny thing to do would be to give a big jubilation 'Yahoo!' or 'Sweet!' when he says 'I missed'. Throw in a few fist pumps. Then give an even more overly dramatic 'let down' when he shows his cards. If you can make yourself cry - do it. I would maybe even fall onto the floor and make references to no longer being able to buy groceries or medicine anymore.

If he then asks why you are making such an obvious hammed up reaction you could answer that you thought that was what he was looking for. I mean, why else would he do what he is doing.

PS - I am just kidding with this reply. I'm not actually advising anyone to do it. However - it would be hilarious if someone did. Wink

No. He only said he missed when all the action was done and I had declared my (losing) hand.

I think you read him perfectly and shouldn't let him bother you....this is exactly whan he wants. Don't give it to him.

I think that is great. I would love to see something like that happen. It shows the guy that you think he is an a$$, but also shows him that you aren't going to be tilted by his actions.

I jokingly slow rolled quad 8s once. but it was a friend at a tourny table i was at.

had pocket 8s, called a raise that everyone folded to. flop came 8 8 4 checked, got raised all in. called of course.

anyway, he flipped over a/k and i said something like "man, if you outdraw me this time, i think im quitting." and "reluctantly" flipped em over one after the other.

hehe.

Most players want to hone their skills so they can beat the opponents. Sounds to me like this guy thinks trying to put you on tilt is one of his poker skills. I see guys like that and I often wonder if they have forgotten that poker at this level is suppossed to be fun. Trying to make some one mad so they will play worse is not a poker skill.

Not much you can do...you wait for him in the parking lot, beat his as.s and take back the money you lost. Then tell him if he ever slow rolls you again, you'll bang his women and burn down his house! Twisted Evil Surprised Mad
