i read this a while ago, and by saying that, he meant that he would exclusively play online because of all the hands he can potentially see in such a short time...
girlypro, did you read that off of a blogger's post? Iggy's? i read the same thing earlier today, but i believe that the espn chat was a while ago... |

| Online play will make you a more experienced player faster than live play will. So many more bad players too. The thing I hate is that the players at your table are constantly changing at cash games. |

I couldn't possibly disagree more. Poker isn't an "online" game by nature. If you only play poker online, you will never really know how poker is played.
You see more hands per hour, that's about it. There is no substitute for chips in stacks in front of you and real players to stare down. |

Isn't that what it's about? The more you play, the more you learn. Staring down your opponent CAN influence your decision, but when it comes down to it, you still have to play fundamental poker. Fundamentals you can learn online just as you can live only faster since as you said, you do play more hands. Granted at times when you call/bet/raise online you don't realize what your doing all the time since it's as simple as a click of a mouse. When you actually have to put chips in the middle you start to have second thoughts about your reads/decisions.
Most of the up and coming poker stars are from the online world - Scott Fischman, Patrick Antionius, Erik Sagstrom, ZeeJustin (god forbid) etc. If both Phil and Daniel started off today then they would be doing the same thing as the guys I mentioned. |

I'm not sure how you can possibly disagree with the statement in italics. It doesn't say that online is going to make you better than live players, it's going to make you more experienced in a shorter amount of time than live play will. Like already mentioned, it's all about the number of hands you see when you're starting out. That's giving you experience. |

Although Grip is right about the potential to make more money online via more hands per hour, along with the ease of multi-tabling, I agree with Jack that poker, in its pure form, is not meant to be played online.
By now, most people know and realize that online poker is meant to be played in a more straightforward way. That is because you cannot see your opponents, and thereby cannot really play the people instead of the cards. (Of course, there are exceptions...) Generally speaking, when you play poker in a B & M casino, you are, or should be, utilizing more information than just the cards that have been dealt to you.
Everytime I'm in a casino, I hear how online poker players get berated. And what's really amusing is when the well known pro's, some of which started and still play online, say how bad the onliner's are, especially at tourney's. Anyway, if you didn't catch it by now, what Negreanu was really trying to say was: 'Play Full Contact Poker!' If you didn't already know, about four months ago Daniel sold the domain, www.fullcontactpoker.com to BSE (Big Stack Enterprises) and then signed on with them as their consultant. The rich keep getting richer, lol. |

I disagree with that completely also. I play the same live as I do online and I rarely make money online and almost always make money live. It depends on the person. The casino atmosphere makes me play better poker.
Grip, how many hours do you actually spend in live tournaments or casino games? |

I play live a lot as well and I find that playing online is quite different from playing live. Being a good live player does not necessarily translate into being good online player (and vice versa). As you said, your accustomed to playing in a live atmosphere, staring down your opponent or intimidating your opponent, picking up tells etc. But playing online is different. The game is faster, looser, virtually no tells and probably the limits/stakes your playing at are less significant than live which means your opponents will "suck out" more. As I said before, even some of the well known pro's have not (and don't want to) adjusted to online play.
