This coming weekend...saturday or sunday. Planning to get an AMDx2 based machine. Trying to decide between 1GB and 2GB memory and whether or not I should get a DVD player in addition to the DVD-R.
Bought myself a 19" LCD a couple of weeks ago and it is sweet. |
This sounds more than adequete (sp?) and in fact, it kicks butt. I've recently began to consider a dual core AMD since they offer them in socket 939 like my current 64bit so I could simply swap out. Are you building the puter or buying it retail? If you are interested in doing video editing you might like the 2GB if you want to be able to play poker at the same time you are rendering/burning. Otherwise dual channel 1GB total should be more than you need for nearly everything. The money spent on another 1GB of memory would be better spent juicing up your video card on a system like this. The only reason to get an additional DVD player is to make DVD copies which you could only do of your home videos because of the encryption on movies (although there is a decryption process you can look up to make "backups" of your library, but again this would involve placing it on the hard drive to decrypt anyway so the additional dvd is moot).
One of my buddies is an up and commer and has built a nice UB br from scratch and just cashed out $700 to have me build a rig which isn't dual core but pretty kickin, especially the alienware lookin case. New puters are fun and I'm sure you are anticipating your puter's arrival like my friend. Shoot me questions anytime on that stuff. |

Thanks for the commnets. I have some more questions if you can tolerate me a bit longer....but I think I'll send them via email rather than mucking up this thread further.
