David Sklansky states (something to the effect) if you play the hand differently than if you knew what your opponent holds, he wins. If you play the hand the same as you would if you knew what your opponent holds, you win.
That being said, if I knew what you held, I'd have made the same bet your opponent did, giving you enough credit that you'd lay down a very mediocre hand. It ended up you made a call that either makes you look like a genius, or really dumb, only you really know. But this hand is hardly enough to say your opponent is the worst poker player ever. |

I'm not a big A8 off guy, but if you were going to play it on the button after a limper you might as well raise with it.
The guy's play post-flop was gutsy with three diamonds on the flop, but since everyone limped he could represent trips or something. When he bet $4 and you raised to $8, I imagine a lot of players will at least call with a decent holding since the odds are pretty decent. You had an 8, true, but I would consider myself on a draw if I were you. Second pair with top kicker was really all you had - and what you ended up with when you lost all your chips in the end.
He was on the blind and could have held anything - he could have already had the flush... |
