The aggressive ones that call just about everything hoping to catch a piece on the flop. If they catch even a small pair, they'll call you all the way down to the river to catch a 2 pair of something.

Most people's advice would be to raise more when you have a hand right? Well it seems like everytime you do that, they do catch their 2 pair and you end up going all in and getting beat by like 3s and 8s or something.

Come to think of it, if you're willing to lose some money, it seems like a great strategy cause when you win, their usually big pots.

What you are describing sounds more like loose calling stations. Aggressive usually means that they are always trying to take command (by betting or raising) of the hand or the ones building pots.

If you have a table full of these (loose aggressive) players then yes your going to have huge variances during that session. If there's only one, try your best to isolate him/her by making a (re)raise. Heads-up you can at least control the pot size better. If they are running well, try keep the pots smaller. The bigger the hand the bigger the pot you can play with them. If they are running poorly, you can overbet more (with less) making them pay more to outdraw you.

To be honest, I know I shouldn't have called the river, but I talked myself into him having A-9, even though my instinct said he called my bets with a middle pair, then found his K or Q. That and the $24 river bet seemed like he was trying to buy the pot.

Despite this stupid play, I ended the session up like $3. Moral of the story is trust your reads, and don't talk yourself into calling.

I play a home game occasionally of about 5 to 6 guys who are all basically calling stations. It's usually dealer's choice so this makes life even more difficult becuase many of the games are fixed or pot limit, which is right up a calling station's alley! Anyways, what I've found is that when playing no-limit you wanna push REAL hard when you have a good hand and don't wanna see them hit their draws. If you think they have mid-pair and you are holding top pair then usually just bet close to the size of the pot and they'll call you. Now if they hit something to beat you then there's little you can do on that. But over the course of 4 or 5 hours their constant calling will cost them alot of money and make you alot. You may have to rebuy a few times, but just remember that they are simply holding those chips for you to take back. And what's better is the more chips they have the looser they will play, thinking it's all free money anyways. This will allow you to crush them when you have a big hand Laughing
