Maniacs ruining the WSOP. I must agree that there are far to many maniacs which ruin the game. But then this true for all levels of the game, from the $0.05/$0.10 tables to a $10k wsop of poker main event.

If you think about it, what Phil Hellmuth said can be understood so much more, "If it was not for luck he would win them all".
What I now take this to mean is that he has the best hand when putting his money in only to lose because some one who really should not have ever called totally lucked out and beat him.
We all have had this happen and have wondered WHY, WHY would that person ever have called?!!!

My answer to this is, that for the maniac's its the rush of hitting that 1 in a 100 shot that makes it worth the risk for them. Unfortunately for us true lovers of the game that one chance which makes them do it is what ruins the game for the rest.

Some say they love the number of fish staying in until the river cause the are making big money off of them. Myself, I am up over all but I tell you it is very hard to stay there.
Why?, because there are constantly 4/5 players chasing hands all the way to the river making the odds greater that one of them eventually breaks my set w/a straight or my strght w/a flush.
AND NO!!, more often then not you CANNOT bet them out of the pot before they make their hand, they dont care they are fishing at any price!!
Bottom line is I make money at tables with good players but rarely am able to at a table with a bunch of maniacs. And its hard finding a table that doesnt have at least 3 playing.

I can agree with Phil on one point. He did say there is a huge misunderstanding of how to play the game correctly, and there is.

They are why it's profitable, I just don't have a problem with them getting in with the worst hand and chasing on draws.

I do agree in the long run you will make preofit, but take this hand for example. I raise with pocket 7s get called by J-K. That's ok. flop comes 10-Q-4. i bet to chae out draws,I get a call. Blank on a turn, and the same thing happends. Now on the river a Jack spikes loosing me the pot. I agree it is profitable, but hands like that can loose you lots of money.

Well don't get carried away betting there, after all the flop contained two overcards. Your opponent may have been on a draw (turns out that he was in fact), but if he had a T or Q you were beaten already. In fact, even if you knew what he had, you should be willing to check the flop, as he is a slight favorite to win (about 52/48). If his draw doesn't get there on the turn, at that point you become a favorite in the hand, but he is still drawing to 14 outs on the river. Find less risky situations to get your money in.

I know, but it stinks to be called by draws, and I knew he didn't have the overcards paired. So to me it was a draw, sadly he did it the other card. Not complainging, but I normally don't see people chase that before the WSOP.

that is not a bad beat at all, pre flop its a normal cointoss with you the slight favorite

the flop benefits him with the draw, giving him slightly better odds than he eventually hits

I'm almost fully convinced online poker is rigged, I actually got a piece of paper and took notes on 100 straight hands and 63 of the 100 hands were won by the worst hand. I saw pocket aces raise so just one person called twice (which eliminates players with bad cards from calling and drawing out) and pocket aces lost 2 of the 3 times they were showed down. One time, the guy flopped a flush, which is legitimate. Another time, pocket kings vs. the aces. The guy with kings doesn't hit a king, instead makes 4 spades for a flush. Not like the guy with kings shouldn't have called but when are the aces going to hold up? As for that Hellmuth quote about luck being involved, he's one of my favorite players after that quote, I've said at side games before "the only way i'm losing is if someone puts a bad beat on me."

i myself love to chase draws, lol, BUT they must be for the right price... if you bet the minimum into a pot that contains anywhere between 5-10 big blinds, i WILL chase it since i only have to hit one out of 5 times to make money... now if you bet a nice sizeable amount, you will most likely get the drawing hands out of there, but if they still chase, just remember you make money off of these suckers in the long run, so just shake off the bad beat and move on to the next hand
