There's nothing wrong with making mistakes, there is only a problem with not learning from them--which is sounds like you are trying to do. BTW, $5/10 is a great limit and you can still make a ton of $$ that will pay for a multitude of things. It sounds like $2/4 NL is your bread and butter though, good luck I know I can't handle those swings. It takes a special breed I guess.

Mathman, if you read carefully my responses, I never said that I shouldn't have tried to learn new games, merely that I shouldn't have tried to learn them by starting at such high levels. The moral of the story isn't "don't every try to learn how to play stud" - it's "don't try to learn to play stud by starting out at $2/$4 and not noticing that you dropped over $500."

As for telling what kind of car I got, I'm sorry if that bothered you. But I do love that car. It's my baby.

Thank you for submitting it in spite of your reservations. I'm going to scrutinize my results very carefully now, and see if I can find the kind of insight into my game that you did. And I'm sure your post will inspire many others to do the same.

In short..... I think this post will be very, very helpful to a lot of our forum members.

And on a side note...... I didn't think you sounded like you were bragging at all. Personally, I was excited to hear such outstanding results from someone I trust not to be spewing pure BS. Your post gave me renewed hope that I can eventually make my own online game that profitable.

Jaconda I am looking for help in figuring out a good spreadsheet for the easily confused.. /blush I need to find holes in my game and such and would like advice as to what to track. Both online type games as well as live. I aspire to actually get brave enough to go to one.. one day /giggle. You mentioned you use a spreadsheet so I am looking forward to your reply.

I have a spreadsheet that keeps track of how much I win/lose at any given game (limit hold em, NL, stud, razz, etc), as well as MTTs and SNGs. If you send me an email at junkmailonly101@yahoo.com I'd be happy to send it to you. However, if you're really looking for leaks in your hold em game, I recommend getting pokertracker - it's well worth the money, and can be used to find holes such as hands played from early position that lose you money, baby pairs, etc.

Very good story, that should get some people to check their stats...lol Don't be to concerned over your loss though, for it will eat you up inside if you think about it too long.. My father was a gambler, and how amazing from someone who grew-up in an all Italian family that played cards 6 nights a week, and freq. the race track and casino's more than I care to even tell....that I am as well. I can tell you that variance on the short term is seen by many players that play for 3 years or less, but for those that play much longer, say 20 years variance on the long term is then seen. Not to make you ill or anything, but I can tell you that I have had periods where if I were to gamble only 1% of my "bank roll" per session, I would have been living in my car, lol. If you are serious about making money "gambling", I can tell you some advise,

1. Don't ever think of what could have been, only what is...
2. Keep multiple "bank rolls" to back you up, ex. if you have 50,000 play with 5000 as you would if you only had 5000 total
3. Split profit margin, If you start with 5000 and bring it to 10000, cash 2500 for yourself, your new Acura, or whatever, and never look at the 2500 you added to your gambling fund as profit...
4. Keep up the good work, I have read your posts, and for a college girl, your on the right path, get your degree, play poker, always have a plan to keep up your lifestyle if the "Worst" happens, even if it seems far fetched.
And #5 the most important and difficult rule to keep
Be happy with what you have, dont always want more, this has been the downfall of many a gamber, there never happy with what they won, they got to have more, more, more.... If you can make 3500 a month, please dont fry your brain trying to make 35000, trust me, the thrill of betting high stakes gets hold of ALL of us at some point, it clouds our thought

You did great - be proud - dont worry about the 10K, cough it up to learning and try not to make the same mistake Razz

What a great post Jaconda. I ususally get lazy and dont read the ones that are too long, but at my level it is posts like this that help me learn.
For my level of play, and having just purchased PT, it is a warning to heed, and certainly something to look out for when going through my statistics.
