|
|
A typical Middle Position player raises 3X BB and I call from the button with 87s. The BB calls. Flop is Paint,8,5 rainbow. BB checks and raiser bets half the pot.
This gives me middle pair with crummy backdoor straight and flush draws.
How do you pros play this? Or, do you play it at all? Maybe I've just been watching too much Farha and Negreanu on TV. |

what does this person normally raise?
what is your table image?
how many flops does this person see?
have you seen them make continuation bets for pot sized or half the pot?
If it was a J i would raise his bet 3x without hesitation to figure out if he had QQ+ or if he had AK. |

I'm talking about a typical raise for a solid player. It could be 4 or 5 BBs, but the point is, it's the typical raise you expect to see from an average player holding two big cards.

That of a retiree who has read the books but has more money than brains, calls too much (out of boredom) and doesn't read the board particularly well. (Promise not to tell anyone?)

Probably less than half, but more than a third.

How can you tell a continuation bet from a value bet ?
Let's assume I've only been on this table for 2 or 3 orbits but I've seen this player raise pre-flop, then lead out with half the pot after the flop. I don't think that is an unusual move for a player whether he hits the flop or not. |

then i stay with my original statement, if its a jack, raise, if its Q or K, fold.
im reraised you're done with the hand, if he calls, try to check it down, if he bets, fold. |
