Just curious about this. I've been playing NL Hold'em exclusively for awhile and coming out ahead, but finding myself wanting to try a new game.

Now, I'm not going to say I'm "good" at Omaha, in fact I'm pretty certain I'm not. I do pick up concepts pretty quickly so I think I have potential, but what I'm discovering is that at any given six handed table, at least 3-4 of the other players at least, will have absolutely no idea what they are doing, playing hands that are much to weak to play, showing down hands with like no chance to win, etc.

Now, I'm playing low-ish stakes - $2 and $5 games - but it just feels like Omaha has a lot of really, really soft players. Have others had the same experience?

The "beginners luck" factor is pretty high in Omaha. Keep that in mind. You may like it now, but being a holdem player you may be in for a surprise when your K high flushes and 2nd sets are no good on a regular basis. But if you are willing to make the long term commitment to actually playing right, it can be very profitable.

usually because people coming from holdem dont understand how the extra 2 cards effect hand strength.

My thoughts on first playing Omaha Hi/Low were similar in that many people have no idea what a raising / winning hand looks like. In HORSE games, people are even worse. I'm thinking about giving Omaha Hi more of a try... Do you think the level of play in Omaha is even softer than in Omaha Hi/Low?

From what I have witnessed, the level play of play at 3/6 O8 ring games and up is quite solid. As well as reading on 2+2, it seems those levels is filled with regulars/solid players as opposed to Omaha where a big edge can still be obtained.

I'd agree that the level of play in Omaha is not up to par with Hold-Em. But even weak patient players can make money by playing "Get The Nuts, Bet The Nuts" at low levels. It won't work at higher levels though so you'll have to learn to give action (without going broke) in order to get paid when you have a hand.

I'm not sure how broad your understanding of Omaha is, so I'll suggest a bunch videos that I watched on Youtube a couple of weeks ago. There are about 20 videos, but they are only about a couple of minutes each, so total time will be less than 45 minutes.

Go to youtube.com and search "Omaha poker strategy" (or click the link below). There are a whole bunch of videos submitted by expertvillage that you should watch. One or two of the videos will be about poker hands and the rules on how to play Omaha, but even though you are familiar, they are short so you may want to watch them anyway. Even if you pick up one small idea from each video, you're going to be ahead of the game.

Good luck!!

Can i just make a quick comment on The first comment, Ive been playing PLO on stars for aa while now normally $3/$6 PLO ring gams, and am very surprised at how soft the games are. At this level u have players who semi-know what there doing, but you still find players stacking off with bottom end of str8's ect.....good times to be had...yumyum
