Tens are terrible in stud 8. Especially early in a tourney. If I'm reading the hand history right you limped in with tens while a king, queen, and jack were still to act behind you. Terrible play. At a full table stick to kings and queens in the RIGHT spots. And obviously aces too.
You pretty much played it by the book except for your check on 6th. He represented a low draw the entire way, so there's no need to give him a free card. By checking you're letting him know you have dry tens, and that's a great spot for him to bluff you on the end with a pair of threes showing. If you bet right out he'll have to put you on two pair or better. I've thrown away 2 small pair many times on the end when a solid player bets his big pair all the way. If he makes his low you win half, if he draws out, atleast you played the hand aggressively and you know that you were unlucky. |

The right play is to fold on third street.
The check on sixth is appropriate. It doesn't set up a river bluff by a bare pair of threes; having come this far, our hero has to call a river bet. (Head up against an obvious high hand, a made low pretty much always should bet/raise on the river, to generate more action those times when you have a scoop. (The people who worry about "feeding the rake" are chumps.) |
