Hey there this hand just came up and I thought it was slightly comical what happened. I was in late position two off of the button at a .05/.10 PL table. See AA double suited with low connecters. Like usual there is bout 7 player in the hand, and the button pots it. So I'm thinking aces probably only single suited but heavy on the high cards. Comes to me, everyone has folded. I decide well we will see since it has been a slow day for me just hanging around even all day. I pot it right back at him for half my stack which is around $3. He just calls that. Flop comes A-8-10 all of hearts. For some reason though I was in D and S. First to act I just go all in and he mucked it right there. I know a guy really should be more patient but I didn't feel like getting pushed around there. Good play or bad play? Is that considered a semi bluff since I didn't have the nuts? Comments are very welcome since I folded top set of queens while writing this

Its a fine play there, at the low limits you can afford to do that, he probably had KK with other good connectors in his hand to pop it up like that pre-flop and didn't have 2 hearts, so not only could he not beat the A on the board but he couldn'y beat the hearts either. I think it was a fine play when the aggressor gets nailed.

At those limits he might have had AK62 and gone "wow, AK!" I wouldn't push there, probably, but I don't know how much you had left or how big the pot was. It was definately a semi bluff, since you had nowhere near the nuts, but any pair on the board gave you a boat, so you had a good draw against a made flush.

In a way you are adding fold equity to your hand. Either he has the flush, or he doesn't. It's not like hold'em where if he has the King of hearts he can still draw to the nut flush. If he does have the nut flush already then you are about a 2-1 dog. Not sure of your chip stacks or pot sizes, but maybe you had good odds to push. The thing is, the only way you are getting called is if he does have the flush so you are adding more equity to your hand by giving him the chance to fold, making this a +EV play.

Well the pot probably had close to 6 dollars in it and I had about 2.25 left in my stack after the flop

It was an instant-push situation. Either that, or you'd call regardless due to pot odds. Pushing's just better because you gave him the chance to fold.

Why you think aces? You think aces is the only hand people raises preflop with? I only play shorthanded but people raises with many different kind of hands.
Its great when they think you have aces when you raise preflop and calls you down with a weak two pair and u got top twopair, trips or something.
i raise with wrap hands, any 2 pairs (e.g. 7722 ), AAxx, KKxx, and many others. Then i bet the flop in about 75% of the cases no matter what comes. I dont play this aggresive every time, but mixing it up with tighter play has worked very well for me. |
