|
|
I am relatively new to Omaha and I was wondering what the general consensus is on playing pocket trip aces with a suited 8 as a fourth card?
I was facing a pot raise and a call pre-flop with the blinds still behind me.
I folded sensing that 1 of my "outs" was in my pocket already and that the better and caller were strong and probably had a good chance of outdrawing me. And wouldn't you know the flop came down K-A-K. A straight or a flush ended up winning I believe.
Did I play it wrong or should I just chalk up that flop as an abnormality? |

Facing a pot raise and a call in multiway action? You pitch it and fast.
For a typical AAxx hand, you either want to get it all in preflop, or you want to get as few people to the flop as possible so the AAxx stands a better chance of winning when unimproved (it will be unimproved a great deal.) Stronger AAxx hands however can deal with more multiway action, as they will have stronger chances of improving.
With one of the x's being yet another A, the only real thing you have left going for this hand is the flush possibility. That may be worth a SB limp/BB check, but little else. Don't get fooled by the results oriented thinking and that you would've won it that time. |

Personally if its a loose passive table I would call in this situation and see a flop. If the pot sized raiser is the first to enter the pot, the raise was only a little more than 3XBB, plus you have position on the raiser. In a loose passive game, if there is a raise, call, and you call, you can probably count on calls from the Button and the Blinds. All this adds up to a pretty large pot, which against typical low limit Omaha players is nice with a suited Ace.
Plus, you can use a little advanced move if you have the guts. Since you have 3 of the aces, no one can have the nut flush for any of those suits. You can get certain players to fold lesser flushes by representing the nut flush. You need to know your opponents for this, and it can be risky.
But if the game has any sort of tightness or over-agressiveness pre flop this is an auto fold. |

| Fold preflop easy, the only real made hands you can get is a flush or a set... not worth calling at all. |

| thx for the adive guys, I actually ran into this again today, but with a AKsuited along with the trip aces, but only me and blinds behind me, no action, so I simply called and saw the flop, got the flush draw and the flush on the turn, so I made some $$.... |

what are the stack sizes? if it's possible to get the money in preflop, i'd go for it. i mean nobody else can have AA, so you're a slight favorite against anything he could have.
however if stacks are way too deep to get it in pre, either see a cheap flop or just fold. |

Wrong.
JT98 double suited is a slight favourite over AA62 rainbow. So I know but don't feel like figuring this out, there's more than one hand that becomes a slight favourite over AAAx preflop, JT98 double suited is just one of them. |

| FOLD PREFLOP!!! the third ace makes the first 2 much less valuable becuz of a decreased chance of a set or FH. only thing u got is overpair or a flush. |
