I knew he had the king... I mean, I knew it! I knew he'd call. I also knew I had no other way to win the hand though, and I guess I wanted to win it a little too bad. Would going all in had made a difference? I figured that would have looked too much like a bad bluff and they'd have def called even with low pair.

looks like you don't bet when you have a hand, and bet when you don't have a hand.

yup.. I just figured if I bet the quads theyd fold right away, and at least I as getting them to min bet to me. Had to hope they'd make a better hand by the river and make that last bet so I could check raise big, having a little better pot odds on them to make a call.

The other hand,... I just really suck.

Dude, you never raised once on quads? I mean you got him to bet into you on the flop and you smooth called, I'm OK with that one. On the turn somehow he lead again, you've got to raise there. Once you decide to call, I'd just go ahead and put an overbet in on the river, hoping he would call thinking that you missed your flush. Can't check that down without ever raising or leading once.

In the first hand u have to put in a raise at some point. You have to know wat type of player ur opponent was. Is he the type of player that keeps firing away at pots or is he more tight. I get the check on the flop...but after that maybe checkraise the turn and raise again on the river... u need to get more chips in the pot like the person above me said.
The second hand try not raising in middle position with 10 8 off unless u know ur good at playing postflop and that the tbls tight. Judging by all those calls i dont think the tbls tight. And with 4 ppl in the hand on the flop a bluff doesnt seem like a good option. You should just give up the hand on the flop wait for a better spot.

Ok, I know, I really do suck... I do... but I think I left out a little information.

This was a 50/50 split bounty tournament. So I had to hope, in hand 1, that the player would hit something or already had something big like pocket jacks. Or, a straight draw. Something big enough to get them all in with and earn the bounty. IMO, I couldn't have made more than an additional 150-300 chips on this hand if I had bet or put in a raise at any time during the hand.

I'd have rather recieved all their chips and the bounty, than an extra 150. I don't think I really even played it that bad actually. lol. I just suck though overall.

You can't get any extra money out of a good poker player by check raising their bad hand agasint a solid board.

Thats the lesson here.

Have to agree with the others. For sure nothing wrong in some respects checking down to turn/river with quads, but for sure you got to raise him at one of those points or other. Not enough to scare him off, as he obviously had something. He may have folded thinking you had trips at the very least, but either way its better to bet and see if he will call it than just checking it down.

On the second hand. Well you knew you were behind and didn't lay it down. Laying a hand down when behind is the smart play. Sure sometimes a bluff will get them to laydown, and maybe he would worry slightly about his kicker, but even going all in wouldn't have for sure forced him to lay it down and that could have been you out totally. This kind of thing is quite common when you see someone with say middle pocket pair that refuses to put them down even in the face of overcards on the board and strong betting to them. Just lay them down if you are pretty sure you are behind and the odds aren't with you to improve the hand. Can't win the tournament in one hand, but you can sure knock yourself out or be in dire stack trouble from one hand.
