I just got beat by a guy who went all-in preflop about five times prior. I see this a lot in the freerolls on Pokerstar and it works every time it seems. Especially when the person is "trying to leave the tournement. They will just seem to win and win. On the hand that I had I went all in on queens and he had five-nine offsuit preflop and he ended up catching a straight. So my question is; is this a valid strategy to be used? Please excuse the bad grammar. Embarassed

it's a freeroll. people can't be bothered trying to beat 5000 people to win like $15 or something. however if they can manage to double up a bunch of times and build up a huge stack, then they can give themselves a much bigger chance of winning money, so they're not wasting their time nearly as much. kind of "go big or go home" i guess.

i don't know what you mean by "is this a valid strategy?". there's not some book that says what strategy is right or wrong. i guess it's a good strategy for people who don't want to waste hours playing in a tournament where they don't have that good a chance of winning.

After the donk doubles up, he really has nothing to lose by going all in again. At worst he's right back where he started.

Now after 4 hands, he's up maybe 6000 against 1500 stacks. Not much of a setback with a loss, but much to gain by shoving.

Thats why you see a chip leader after 10 hands with 20k+.

Just the lucky guy out of thousands that wants to play that way.
