Hey guys,

Last night I entered the Candian free roll of 2700 entrants.
I joined about 20 minutes late so I was down to 1300 chips off of the 1500 you get to start. I won some nice bets and slowly increased to around 5000 in chips, and before you know it I was at 40,000, then dropped to around 25k.

I ended up placing 71st place which is the best I have ever done. I've only entered freerolls a few times. I ended up getting knocked out with some errors on my part trying to bluff with a low pair. It is quite hard just to place even 27th place at max for 2 dollars in real money.

Anyways, if anyone has any tips or suggestions on finishing in the top 27th of a 2700 freeroll that would be great. I'm entering another one tonight and some tips would be helpful!

Thanks,

Basic poker,bluffs will not work in the freerolls,you will get called with any pair,it's tuff to make into the top 1% but it can be done regularly with a little patience and skill,wait for your monsters and shove,most times you will get called......good luck!

PS...you can open up close to the bubble,you will find most of the players still in it timeing out and folding just to try and make it in.

Okay, I was only bluffing though because I was not getting many hands and the high blinds and antes were eating away at my chips and I was falling below average so I thought I had to make a move, thanks,

For the first five or so hands I play pretty tight unless I get KK or AA. If you get this in one of the first two hands push all in. Chances are you'll get at least one or two calls. People generally do that to try and get a stack built early otherwise it's not worth playing. Noone wants to invest so much time and come away with nothing or even in best case scenario 15 bucks. That's my take on it anyway.

After those first few hands I generally loosen up a little. Still though, pick your hands wisely. Often times people will make random calls and treat it like play money games. I usually either amass a pretty decent stack or fizzle out rather quickly.
Once you get a pretty healthy stack I would be VERY selective in your hands. You don't want to lose it on pisspoor hands you could have just as well not played at all. I think that's pretty important to get deep. I should take my own advice really haha Sometimes I take a bad beat and it's all down hill from there ;
