|
|
SO I've decided I'd like to have a go at satelliting into a big FTOPS tourney (prob event 1, buying of 216 is too steep for my bankroll)
As of now I plan to follow the tier system- I am 3 for 5 getting a 26 dollar token in the 8 dollar SitNGos
Next I plan on the 18 player SnGs using the tokens that pay 5 75 dollar tokens and cash for 6th
Then rinse and repeat with the 75 dollar token(s) to get a $216 token
With that said, it seems like a lot of play to build up to it, although i think it is doable... Any ideas about how many tokens to try to accumulate at each level? I think just playing with one would make me feel rather pressured so I like already having 3 26 dollar tokens
Also, am I an idiot for not just playing the 8 dollar 36 player SnG where 1st gets entry and 2-4 get cash? I feel like I'd have to get lucky to win one but it might happen sooner than all these tiers.... Any thoughts?
EDIT: Also an option is a MTT with the 26 dollar tokens- 2 deats guaranteed.. seems like a bit of a long shot as well, depending on the # of entrants |

| I have done it this way the 3 times that I tried to sat into FTOPS. All 3 times, I was successful. |

Thanks for replying drkato
Out of curiosity- what strategy did you use? build up a few tokens and then take however many you could to the next level, or just try to follow 1 all the way through until you made it? |

| If $216 is too steep for your bankroll, so is T$216. |

| I would like to take a shot and if I can do so without risking my current bankroll than I dont see much harm in htat. Like I said I am using just recent profits in my token quests. If I can get in from one of my tries starting with 8 dollars, then it'd be more than worth it |

| I'm not telling you not to take the shot. There are plenty of valid reasons to do it. Just don't pretend you are playing within your BR. |

I only had to follow one all the way. I parlayed my $6 or $8 all the way, with that being my only initial investment. |

Well I failed to place in my first SnG fro Tier 2... Quite a heartbreaker- Short stacked with 7 players left and woke up in the SB with KK. UTG minraised and I pushed (a very small reraise, haha). Of course, he had AA and I bubbled just out of 6th place money or 1-5th token.... Feel good about getting that far thought and pretty sure I can have success in the future.
Nilgiri- So would you consider playing in any satellite to be out of one's bankroll? I'm pretty sure thats the whole point of satellites... you can play in big tourneys for a smaller fee if you are good enough to get there.
I can sort of understand that once i get to the next level 26 dollars is probably out of my BR, but its a token not cash. the initial 8 dollars is well within my BR |

I also have been quilty of doing the Token Run to either increase BR
or Sat. into a large MTT. I think you have to feel comfortable with it.
I also understand BR Mgt should be followed, but hey aren't there
exceptions to all rules ( Joke ) Just don't go of the Deep End... |

| I agree- I suppose its just mental but I don't consider the tokens as cash, so that helps. Not saying i don't value them, lol, but If I get a token for 8 dollars- I dont consider using the token as spending the sticker price. I think I'm safe as long as I have the BR to support the 8 dollar investment. If I lose on my token attempts, I still havent lost my BR, and I think protection against losing one's BR is what "BR management" is all about, no? |

Yes, assuming the buyin for the tournament you play is out of your BR, it doesn't matter how you got there.

So if you play an $8 SnG and win $26, is this different than if you win a token?
Look, as I said I'm not saying don't sat into tournies. All I'm saying is that you should be honest with yourself. $26 is $26, whether in token form or cash form. $216 is $216, whether in T$ or cash. Most people take shots outside their BR, but you should be honest that this is what you are doing when you do it. |
