| I don't minraise on the turn. I make it 800 or so. But, as played, I fold after he makes it 765. That smells like strength to. If you fold there it's still early and you still have more than enough chips to play. |

I play it completely differently.
First off, AQ off is a toss up for whether or not to fold it when UTG.
However, if I had done what you did, I raise the flop bet, then see what he does. This way I find out where I'm at as cheaply as possible. If he raises back again, let it go. If he calls and bets the turn, let it go. If he calls and checks the turn, fire in onre more bet. If he raises, let it go. If he calls and bets the river, let it go. If he calls and checks the river, check, and when he shows the winner, let it go.
However, if I had done what you did, I fold the turn right away.
You may disagree with all of this and say it is too passive, like many people do, but the point is that it is just too early in the tournament to decide if your A high is good or not. You're effectively risking your stack because you didn't want to be bluffed out of this pot. Later on, fine... but not in the very early stages. These stages are meant to be used to get reads on people so you can figure out if they've got the hand or not later on when the blinds are high. |

AQ is the Mike Tyson hand-Looks strong but gets beat more often then not.
It looks as if he is not afraid of you having a flush. Fold.
As far as playing it different, well, raise his min flop bet. But fold that turn, save the chips for a better spot IMO. If another diamond comes on the river it will be even worse for you OR hell, if you are feeling crazy shove the turn and find out if he is bluffing You got him covered in chips. He could be bluffing the flush. Are you willing to risk the SnG to find out though?
No matter what though he is all in on the river as most of his chips are now in the pot with his reraise of your raise. Only a flush or a bluffer would be doing that. |

Glad I asked. Sounds like good advice all around.

I came to the same conclusion after looking the hand over. My reraise wasn't enough to scare off A-xd, which is what I wanted it to do. And you're right, his reraise looks like a v-bet.

I love it!
Both Alex and Wayniac suggested folding to his turn bet - wow, I never even considered that at the table. I saw that A and thought "my hand is made!"
But I see now that he's not afraid of the A or the 3 diamonds. He's either bluffing or has me beat;
Wayniac you summed it up very nicely - I'm committing a lot just to call down a potential bluff - I know that's unwise early in the tourney, but I was blinded by my pair of aces. My only explanation is that I just recently moved up from $2 tables where more bluffing goes on. But even there this was probably an unwise play. here's the rest -
River: (1,785) 8d (2 Players)
BB bets 360, Hero folds
Results: 1,785 Pot
BB mucked and WON 1,785 (+900 NET)
This left me at 800 and I never recovered.
