This is just a rant. The last 5 days, the river has hated me. I'm even in my bankroll during this time, it's a result of being up really big and then crashing back down in the same session. I have been in a situation multiple times where I have two pair (sometimes top 2 pair) by the turn and jam the pot. It would be one thing to get called down with someone on a flush draw or a straight draw. But there have been 7 times where the river has brought the other player a better 2 pair on the river when I have put them all-in. I feel like I'm doing it right by getting my money in with the best hand. Just some examples (no HH) just want someone to tell me if I'm doing something wrong.
QJs vs. ?? - I'm on the button raise 4XBB, get called by both blinds. Flop is KQQ. Checked to me, I bet the pot. SB raises minimum. BB folds. I put SB all-in. SB calls, flips up AK. Turn J. River K. This was a HUGE pot... (over $1000)
56s vs. ?? - I'm in the BB it gets around to me with no raises, so I check. Flop comes K52. Everyone checks. Turn 6. SB bets about the size of the pot. I raise 3X what they bet (puts them all-in). Folds around to SB. SB calls. Turns up KJo. River J. This was a tournament ($19000 guarentee) and I was top 10 in chips at that point. Knocked me down a bit.
KQs vs. ?? - I'm at the cutoff (in the same tournament) Raise to 3.5XBB, button calls, everyone else folds. Flop comes KQ5. I check, He bets the pot, I raise to put him all-in. He calls, flips up AK. Turn 2. River A. This crippled me in the tournament. I busted out a few hands later.
ATs vs. ?? - Middle position, I raise to 4XBB. Button calls. BB calls. Flop comes AT8, one of my suit (clubs). BB checks. I bet 2/3 pot. Button calls. BB folds. Turn 9 (clubs). I have top two pair and the nut flush draw. I bet the size of the pot. He raises all-in (only about 1/3 pot more). I call. He flips up AQo (Q not a club). River Q of hearts. This pot was about $500.
Each table I'm playing pretty tight and with the same players for a while. I did notice though that each time I was behind pre-flop so maybe it's something with my hand selection. But I'm not playing these hands from EP for raises. If I enter, I'm the one raising. But going to the river in each of these hands I'm more then a 3:1 favorite. In some of them I'm about 95% to win. If someone can see something I'm doing wrong, I'm all ears. I was just going over my HH last night and was stunned at the hits I was taking. Thanks for listening. Hopefully variance will start to love me soon. |

I don't see how you don't go broke in any of those hands you showed except 5-6, but in the BB, you're gonna think 5-6 was good on the turn, as would many.
So basically, you just got unlucky. |
