I think you can still call here.

I dont read it as a value bet, but with just a call on the flop and turn, I don't read him as being on two pair or a straight. Possibly a flush draw after the turn. Just seems like he was weak flop/turn.
But thats just reading how the hand was played and without seeing his normal river plays, it would just be a guess.

I would have led with a 1/2 to 2/3 pot bet on the river, more as a blocker, but if I was raised, I could let it go with less than than it would have cost me to call a pot bet by checking.

Agreed, I definitely think this is the better play on the river.

I'd agree with that in a non-capped game... a check represents a lot of weakness on the river, so it may induce a bluff. But it's capped, so a 1/2 pot bet on the river nearly caps it, so it doesn't accomplish what you want it to.

However, as played, I'd probably fold. At the low limits, I'd say he's holding a boat >80% of the time with a large bet like that unless he's shown a history of being a maniacal bettor/bluffer. Think of it this way... what would a typical player possibly be calling you with on the flop and turn? 87, 82, 72, 22, J8, JJ and/or 2 clubs.

Assume you'd get raised on the flop w/ 77, but even that hand is a possibility, albeit less likely. The only thing you can beat is 72 or 2 clubs.

I'm check calling here every time. Betting out is definately not the play. You arent getting called by a worse hand, and a boat is capping anyway. At least if you check you can get value out of the bluff he is making 30% of the time or so.

I'd probably end up calling here OTR TBH.

Also, I prefer a check/raise attempt OTF so you can get it in. You have a big draw and it's a cap game.
