Its a Heads Up shootout yes? It means that if lets say 201 people join, one person won't have an opponent. So they get an auto win. That is a bye.

ty, i guess i got jipped, i had to play the first round. do you know how they pick who gets the free bye? doesnt really seem fair, some people only have to win 2 rounds to money, while everyone else has to win 3.

We had a big debate about this back in May:

it's definitely mathematically fair for a shoot-out with an uneven number of players, but people have different opinions about how they should handle it.

It's random, so it all evens out in the long run. You wouldn't be complaining if you received a bye, would you?

It's been discussed in that thread, and iirc we concluded that it is in fact mathematically fair since (I believe they still) have the player who had to play in round 1 gets twice as many chips for the next round, since they doubled their stack by winning.

I just played in a heads up shootout with free byes and did not get a bye in the first round. Renegades8 is mistaken about chips carrying over to the next round. The next round started with the same 1500 starting chips and blind structure of the first round.

Personally I do not like the free bye concept. I understand that overtime it will all even out, but I really liked the symmetry of the old system. I always thought it was funny seeing how many people would register in the final seconds when they obviously were not going to be seated in the tournament.

IMO everyone should start out on a level playing field in a poker tournament. The difference between having to win 4 heads up matches in a row versus 3 is pretty signifigant. It basically cuts your chances of making the money and advancing further in the money by half. I don't see myself playing in as many of these tournaments if FullTilt continues with the freebyes.

the chips do not carry over, and they begin each round with 1500 chips and the blinds reset at 10/20
