mid december i bought in for $50.00, and two days later cashed out $3,400.
i know what parts of poker i am best at and stuck to those. for me it is heads up. so i started at .50/1 NL holdem heads up. worked my way up to about 250 at that table then went to 1/2. got up to about 750, lost 100 so was at 650. then stopped playing for the day.
next day i started at 2/4, got up to around 1200-1300, and was feeling risky. i highly suggest that if you want to win BIG and alot more quickly then over months times, to play a little of the higher stakes. for me, i took the 1300 to a 25/50 PL omaha hi heads up table. Played 4 hands and got to the $3,400. then i was too afraid of losing it so i waited until full tilt verified me so i could cash out by check and cashed it all out. since then i've lost maybe 100-150 but the profit was worth it by far lol. |

I recommend starting with $50 and playing the $5.00 + $.50 6 max NLHE SNGS. Play patiently, dont let players get in cheep when you have quality cards, and remember that the money in the beginging of the sng doesnt really matter. I've come back from 250 chips 3 handed and lost with 5,000 3 handed. It's all about how you play that short/big stack and theres 3 diff ways to play each circumstance.
As for buyins, I try to use the 20 buyin rule. But starting out with $50 theres no point to play anything lower than $5.50. I recommend bending that rules and NOT moving up to $10 + $1.00 until you reach $220.00. This can and will work cuz I've done it before on pokerstars. You just have to have patients and look at it as work not "spending your time" because you're gonna get bored. Also, please for the love of god dont tilt. We all suffer bad beats and we all dish em out. Crying and whining like a baby isnt gonna make your aces hold up next time nor will it stop the moron calling your all in with J-6.
Play solid. Look to isolate your competition by getting heads up and lead betting. If checked to you bet the pot. Check almost always represents weakness at these lower levels and you can easily take down 3-4 pots in a row before people actually understand what you're doing. If you get any resistance simply give up and fold, try again next hand. Wait for that Ace Jack isolate and contiuation bet. Your goal is to take down the pot regardless if you hit or not.
Heads up just play like a maniac. Raise so high that your opponent can only call with prem cards. Eventually he'll brake down and give in ...hopefully you have a nice hand when he does. If you dont, I still call since you have a 50/50 chance anyway. Heads up is honestly a joke with blinds so high ...luck > skill in these situations anyway.
Just remember you're not gonna make a 1000 bucks in 1 night ...unless you're playing high limits. Take your time and set a goal amount to make in one session. I usally try and make 60 bucks in 8 hours when doing this ...which is about the same as 9 or 10 bucks an hour ...not bad? Eventually before you even realize it you'll be sitting on a $500 dollar bank roll and moving up limits like its nothing |

I agree with LoseEveryPenny. If you're going to deposit a relatively small amount you may as well play basically above your bankroll. As I was "feeling out" all of the online poker rooms i deposited $25 on poker stars to start with. By playing $5 and later $10 SnG's Ive developed quite the healthy bankroll. The problem with micro levels of play is that it's too cheap to chase cards. Nobody is hurt to lose their $1.20 SnG buy in, and they're also not afraid to call your 15 cent raise to chase a flush, even though you're sitting at a .01/.02 table. By playing a bit above your bankroll you seem to run into more realistic situations where it is possible to protect your hand. Your still gonna run into the occasional donkey here and there but if you play smart and stick to what you're good at you should be able to get your bankroll to a respectable point in a short amount of time. |

Been here 3 months. Pretty much play only 90 person $3 NL. Started with $100 bankroll, never dropped below 70, and today is over $500. I read a couple books prior to starting here, and play about 1-2 hours per day, so it's not simply luck. The tough part is the the patience needed to continue playing the cheap tables once you are consistantly making money. For now I look on it like a part time job. Eventually I'm sure I'll try higher limits and see how I do.
My advice to the newbies...., if you make a few bucks your first couple weeks (or month) of playing low limit, don't assume you are a poker genius and rush to playing higher limits. Play consistantly for a few months and then see were you are compared to where you started. If you were to graph your bankroll it should resemble a slow moving upward arrow with only minor dips.
Good Luck Everyone (except when your at my table). |

i started on sunday with 0 dollars and came third in a freeroll winin $18, and in 5 days have made it to $260 and increasing by playin mostly one table $5 sit n gos and the occasional $5 heads up, i started out real low as to not risk my bankroll, then as it improved, the stakes went up, however i have not played any cash games.
hope this helps somehow |

$260 is a good Bankroll from a Freeroll win. Cash games is where the money is IMO, with $260 you should be playing 10NL (if you ever venture into the Cash Game scene). As for SNG's, keep grinding the $5's. If you are a break even player, then in time that $260 will become $1,000. Don't expect to get rich over night. |

I happen to play low stakes SnG's a lot and am ITM 80% of the time. Screw cash games... sorry for those who enjoy that, but my bankroll being on the line by the hand isn't an option.
Yeah, started the $SnG's a month ago, made about $300 from em' |
