I think he played it correctly. I do not have an odds calculator, but I am guessing he is going to win this hand 10% of the time and if not the times he does win he will get his moneys worth. He can fold if he does not hit and the times he does he will make alot more.
I agree on a raised pot the top pair poor kicker might not cut it. In this situation he played it correctly. If you only play with trips or two pair you are going to get eaten alive in a tournament or sit and go. He had the best hand and was sucked out on. |

JBlooms,
I've got to admit, I probably would have played this close to the way you did. First, you got 10:1 pot odds to call with J6o. IMO, that's a reasonable call for 25 chips. J6o can't be a 10:1 underdog to any random hand, can it?
Then you had top pair. Since it was only jacks, I don't know if I would have checkraised the guy, though. Since you did, and he called, I would be wondering what he has that he could make that call with. Could he be slow playing 88 or 44, or even JJ?
All in with two pairs. I MIGHT do that (if I wasn't worried about his calling my checkraise). But then again, I still lose more than I win...
Still, I'm on your side on this one. |

A few things. Not a huge difference, but it was calling 25 into a 225 pot, not a 250 pot. And pot odds are nice, but alot better with hands that play well multi-ways. J6o is not one of those hands.
RunnerJohn: You say that J6o cant be a 10:1 underdog to a random hand and that is probably technically correct, but the OP wasn't playing a random hand. He was playing 5 other random hands. All it would take is one player holding J7-JA to have him dominated to hitting his 3 outer, or hitting a straight board.
The middle of the range that I gave you, J9s, JTo, JTs, QJo, QJs, KJo, KJs, are all hands that players, especially at the $2 level LOVE to limp with, even in EP.
If you are going to post hands calling other players idiots and not expect any criticism, make sure that you did indeed play the hand flawlessly, are you will be very sad at the responses. |

This.
J6o has 12.6% equity vs. 5 random hands (~17.5% each) for what it's worth. |

Thanks for all the replies and the advice. I do agree that I should not call other players "idiots." That is uncalled for, so apologies for that. I'll keep my threads more professional going forward.
I guess I look at the hand pretty simply. I'll call 25 chips on just about any 225 pot with almost any cards. What the hell? I might get lucky. I throw it away if anybody bets even one chip. But, I went with my gut feeling that I had the best hand after the flop. Turns out I was right, but ultimately got unlucky.
Good discussion, though. Lots of valid points. |
