While your 4x BB raise is standard for a SB raise, I don't feel that is +EV against the big stack of the table. I would think that with his UTG limp he will have a mid PP or AT+ maybe 80% of the time, with the other 20% being some sort of suited connectors.

I figure the vast majority of the time he limp/calls, he's planning to fold if he doesn't hit -- either hit a set or TP or whatever. And he won't hit that often, so my c-bet will take down the pot quite often. And these are the times he doesn't fold PF.

I do think you are probably right with the call pre-flop/check fold a missed flop most of the time from the utg limper, so it isn't hard to see how this play could show a profit. Still, I think a hand like 78s is probably preferable to A9o for this purpose. I

On the flop, I'd bet it, say 400ish. Surely there are enough overs to your pair of 9's that you aren't in the same 'way ahead/way behind so check' mindset of previous hands, are you? Also, how will the observant player ever respect your c-bets if you check every time you hit a piece of the flop? (not that this directly matters in this case as you have changed tables, but in general).

Agreed.

Point taken, although I think it matters less in a SnG. And in fact in a cash game it isn't as bad to c-bet very frequently. When you do hit and your c-bet isn't respected, you have a lot more money to get (i.e. deeper stacks). In a SnG if you c-bet a couple times and have to fold, you just lost a huge portion of your stack. You can't reload, and you aren't that deep in the first place, so when you finally do get a hand and have that great image of c-betting too much, you don't get paid off very much.

In any case, I decided this was a time to bet. Smile

I lay the hand down, you still have ~3k chips and I believe he has a PP in this situation, more likely hitting a set than being an overpair with his check/call pre imo.

It's a pretty ugly spot. He could certainly have you in bad shape here, and its not like he could just think you missed and is min-raising w/ AT.... oh wait, where have I seen that play recently?

I might call the min-raise and fold to a turn bet, but I'm not sure that is a good line. Just can't really come up with another I like any better. Folding so easily on the flop doesn't feel good. A raise will very seldom be called by worse, but comes dangerously close to committing us anyways. If he does have air he may slow down on the turn, but its hard to know....

Unfortunately, a min raise could be a draw, a lower PP, a set, an overpair, a worse TP, even just some overcards...

I decided his range was too big to give this up. Calling would almost certainly bring a scare card, Besides which, if he slowed down I probably was unlikely to get more more money from him, but if he continued his aggression I still wouldn't know where I was.

It worked out. I don't know if this is usually a good idea or not...

On the button with 65o. Should I fold or play? (If it had been folded to me, I'd be raising here to steal some blinds... If I want to play this hand, should I raise or limp?)

Well, the problem with that entire hand (A9o) is just that if you play similar hands that way too often, you are just inevitably going to encounter some completely avoidable busts. Still, considering the limp from EP it is hard to put him on an overpair or a range that is ahead of you. I don't really know if I like any of the options on that flop though. It is probably a good example of why the 78s is better than A9o in this spot, its just more unlikely to put you in a spot where you are faced with the decision to make a weak fold or risk stacking off with something marginal.

Current hand.... I'm curious, you say you'd be raising here with 65o if it was folded to you... are you raising 100% here? 80%? I can't see how it would be less than that if 65o is in your range, unless you just make an exception for low unsuited connectors.

Playing this hand depends on your ability to steal the pot (surely the quality of the cards isn't what convinces you to play), I think that may well be easier post flop than pre (I'd just be surprised if your preflop raise prompted a fold), and it also costs the least if you are compelled to abort, so I prefer calling to raising there. Still, even for a LAG this hand is 100% easily foldable (I'm just betting you didn't).

I'm not quite clear what you are asking. Unopened, I'd raise this probably 80% of the time with 65o. I'd raise (again unopened) from the button here with probably 45% of all hands. I'll any 1-gap connector down to 54, some suited 2-gappers, any ace, any broadway, K's down to K8, maybe K7s or K6s, Q's down to Q8, and a few other hands like J8s. I don't always raise these -- if SB and BB are loose and/or maniac 3-betters, or if I think I have too much of a stealing image, I tighten up a lot. But at 40/80 blinds, I think that's my range here.

I did play the hand... I didn't raise, though. I decided I'd be comfortable calling with 65o OTB with my stack. I'm especially interested in playing it here against another big stack with position on him.

I think the rest is standard though, so I just continued to the next hand...

I really don't like calling raises with hands like this, and a reraise seems pretty optimistic too. I'd fold.

Well, I have position and chips, so I'm ok with a call.

Still don't really like the call. While you may have chips the raise is definitely over 10% of spliff's stack, and his stack is the more determining factor in this case imo.

On the flop, I'm really not strongly opposed to either checking or betting out.

Continuing on. I played #66, but I don't think there is much to comment on -- most people wouldn't try this play, but I was experimenting -- and continue to experiment -- with minraising UTG as a steal.

First off, any guess at how many would be left in the tourney at this point?

Secondly, I check here. If you hit the flop, MP1 doesn't think so as you'd typically raise with paint. And if the board comes rags, you can play like you just got a nice BB special with your 6 3. Many will disagree with how I play my BBs when it's limped to me, but I've found it +EV

We are down to two tables at this point... so 15-17 people.

I totally agree, and play them the same way.

I don't think I'm going to get many votes for a raise, so let's see a flop:
