I think that the question now really is how seriously does this guy think you're a donk? I don't think you should play the cards now, but play the player!
I would put out one of those annoying feeler bets of 1/4 or 1/2 the pot, only to see how he reacts. Again, just to get information on how he plays.
1/4 of the pot seems REALLY weak, but some players will interpret it as "really strong". Weak = strong, you know? so sometimes, weak = weak will even win you some hands...
But I'm not guaranteeing that it will work against this guy. |

Yeah, I can see taking a stab at it with a weird small bet, since he likely missed this flop. I think that is generally spew, though. And, in fact, given my image it probably will be interpreted as weak. I just check it.

Yeah, unfortunately I had the same thought... because the flop was a bunch of low cards, I thought he was probably bluffing.
I'm curious what people think of this check/minraise: Was it bad, or ok? If it was bad, how bad was it?

That's why I like leading out there with a small bet OOP... you send a message that you have a decent hand, so your opponent might be scared to bet big.... now, after you check, his range is very very wide and I think you should have folded (I'm putting him on a medium pocket pair, but I guess nobody will ever know)...
KQs: raise!
(He's a shortstack) |

I don't know that its the best play, but I will quite often just fold the AT even if I think a raise might take it. I like saving those moves for later when I'm under more pressure to accumulate chips in a short time, and hopefully passing on a spot like this will give me a little more ability to steal a bigger pot later....
KQ, I think a raise to isolate the shorty (or get him to fold) is a fine plan. |

| Why do we want to isolate shorty? Do we really think we are ahead of him after he raised UTG? |

Ahead sometimes, but with my chipstack I don't mind a coinflip with KQs either. |

Well, I'm not convinced about reraising KQs against the UTG shorty. But I'd like to hear more about this. Anyway, I just called.

You have a point, I glazed over the raiser's position before. I just looked back a little at this guy's previous actions, and he seems pretty tight/passive, so I guess his UTG raise does deserve some respect.
As played, I guess its possible someone is slow playing a better hand, but unless its trips or AQ that would seem to be a pretty bad idea (not that I think slow playing is necessarily best with those either, but that is a different discussion). it seems reasonable to think you could have the best hand, but it is certainly too vulnerable to give a free card to 3 opponents. I'd bet out around 400 and see what happens. |

UTG shorty could have an ace, trying to get as many chips as possible from his hand, but it would seem a poor play considering the 2 spades. AA and QQ are possible, I don't think 77 would be played UTG by a shorty - not enough chips to go mining for sets effectively.
I agree that you need to figure out where you stand. A bet of 300-400 is what I'd do, obviously calling if the short stack pushes (since he only has 610 left anyhow). I just think it's too drawy of a board to let free cards come off considering 3 opponents |

I checked here. I don't believe it is worth the cost of betting here just to know whether I am behind or not. I can't really bet for value. If I get a call, I don't know whether I am facing a monster or a flush draw. I'd much prefer keeping the pot small and just getting out if there is too much action. But I've expressed my views on betting flops like this before...

Now there is a three-flush on the board. But it is checked to me again. What to do? |
