Just wondering? This subject seems to have the least threads. I love split pot games and was wishing some more people would offer some insight. I'll admit I don't have much offer at the time but was just putting a fealer out there.

I haven't quite yet learned how to play this game. I recently purchased Championship Omaha to help me with my game. I've never really played hi/lo before. I am currently reading the hi/lo section. I'll give it a shot after I finish reading. Perhaps, I might have something to add to this section afterwards.

this game (other than 2-7 lowball) has the least TV coverage of any WSOP even...and for good reason...its a great game to play, but it wouldnt work on TV. Even short fields can have marathon sessions of split pot after split pot. I mean I would enjoy watching it because I love the game, but you can understand how it would not have wide appeal to an average poker fan
....there are no pots where all the money is in the middle and the river card will definitively determine a winner and loser. Also, the bluffs in this game are a little more nuisanced and I would say less frequent (still more frequent than one may think though). So, why is NL popular? big all in pots and crazy bluffs. Omaha 8 lacks those two components so it cant draw a TV audience. Since it cant draw a TV audience, there is a less overall pool of players to play it on the net.

finally, the game appears more complicated than holdem. We all know stud, holdem, and omaha have their levels of complexity, but to the average fan holdem is a beautifully simple game. That is why it is so popular. Experts can earn good rates at it, but newbies can pick up the game quickly. And stud, well every home game player has played that at least a few times in their life, so there is familiarity there

I think those are some reasons this great game has less traffic on FTP. Finally, it seems Perry is the only one who plays it on any consistent basis...I've seen Phil G. and Layne play a few times, but those are very rare. I think the site should "nudge" the pros to play some games other than holdem once in a while. of course it's their $ and times, but hey...just saying show the non holdem games some love!

I fogot stud 8 or better has less TV coverage too

I understand why O8/PLO8 gets crappy TV coverage. The vast majority of the public loves to see the "All In"'s , piles of chips pushed one way,(It is pretty boring watching a dealer count out a quatered pot lol) and mounds of cash on the table. That is why poker has gotten the draw it has today. The lure of being a Millionaire by playing cards and watching peoples utter devastation with the turn of them.

My post was just wondering why many have not asked question's on this game. Being members of FTP gives us the chance to pick some of the best players in the world todays brain on a subject not many of us know about. From what I have been reading and the feeling I get from this site is there is not a bad question so your chances of getting flamed are small(I am not including folding AA preflop Rolling Eyes

) compared to other sites.

Of course I don't have a question to post right know.

Yeah, you tend to get flamed only if you say something really dumb - like the guy who folded pocket aces pre-flop (hold 'em) and the guy who thinks all poker books are worthless. If you're that much of an idiot, though, watch out...

I think holdem is more suitable for tv is that it's much easier to seem to grasp the concept for the average person, plus many more home runs.

Even then, it has to be well-edited to sell on tv.

Yeah, NL hold'em is very hott only because it's.... No Limit! If there was NL Omaha H/L there would be a bit more TV coverage, but that would be ridiculous! I love to play PL omaha Hi/Lo and the occasional Fixed.

HL Holdem yanks all the TV attention, new players get into this game and a high percentage only want to play this game. It's a shame really that people stick to just one game Sad

If anyone has ever read SS2 (super system 2) by doyle brunson, they'll understand me. I just finished the book a couple days ago and it had a section about learning different games and being a "Fox." It's a good idea to know a lot of games, I play Omaha H/L, limit holdem, NL holdem, PL holdem, PL Omaha, and 5 card stud/5 card draw. I also play the occasional deuece to 7 lowball or stud.

I think playing this game in particular has helped all my other poker games more than any other-
it helps me 'read' the board mo better-
has made me a better judge of odds n outs an the like-
it has subtle intricate challenges in reasoning what your oppenents may or not have that is/are crucial to advanced play
(not that I'm even remotely near that)
it can break your heart (and your bankroll)
going from the nut hi/lo to to 2nd best with just 1 card
(ahhh the luck factor)

It's my favorite ring game(well,-O.K.-after RAZZ)
I don't, or rather haven't played a lot O8b @ fulltilt (cause o the razz)
the HORSE or SHOE thang sounds mighty enticing-is they low limit or play$ tourneys?

there are Low buy-in O8b NO LIMIT (PL an fixed, too) mt sitngoes ($1-and up) at--
is it considered bad form to mention other poker sites here?

they can be and are often hair raising wild extreme stack volatility rides
with all the action any ADD/TV junkie could want and then some

'course, with the low buyins, theys a lot of er..new or inexperienced $-
but not so different from NL hold'em freerolls

I think a lil downward adjustment in tourney entry fee/buy-ins might drive mo' playas to Fulltilt-

someone might could benefit from that

somebody mentioned NL O8. They do offer it. I'll play it at the 5c/10c level, $10 max buy. Its actually very fun and people chase big time. Just make sure you have at least the lock low or best high before you get all your money in. It plays like PLO8 normally before the flop. Basically the same game. Better bluff potential, but people still pay you off very quickly.

Actually Deuce to Seven Lowball was covered in the 2004 WSOP - but not broadcast. Its available as an extra on the DVD.

Hi/Lo split games are too complicated to draw a large audience. Its a shame, because I'd love to see Norman Chad and his cohorts figure out what hands all the players have:

'He's got A-2-3-4 with a suited ace, which gives him an uncounterfeitable nut low draw, a flush draw, a gutshot straight draw, backdoor outs to two pair, trips, a full house or quads. And he bets the pot, $43768 exactly...'
