I understand what stakes to play within bankroll for each but which to actually play is best?
-Cash Games- Would the worst actually be here, and would it pay off the most in the long run?
-SnGs- You tell me...?
-Tournaments- Major Benefit, I would think the worst of the bunch would play in tournaments.
-Heads Up Tournaments- Major Benefit, I would think this would take the most skill? Therefore the more skilled you are, you should play this?
My questions are, of each which takes the least-most skill, what will make the most money consistently, least-most....
If choose to one, what should I choose...
If to choose all, in what order...
Finally what will benefit from improving my game the most...
Thank You~ |

Hello,
Well, I play a mixture depending on the mood. I usually play enough cash games to get my monthly goldman status, 100 ftps over 25 days, then I will play in sng which I think is where I make most money.
Good luck , either way, if you are a reasonable player you will make money . |

here is my opinion on the different facets of the game....
i would start playing STT SnG's. this is where i learned how to play. the risk/reward ratio for these is optimal. they will give you a good understanding for the game and are not that hard to make the money, as you generally only have to beat 6 to 4 other players. the only downside to starting with these is that it is nearly impossible to clear any sort of sign up bonus as you just do not earn enough FTP's playing them (especially low stakes).
after proving to be profitable after a few months playing SnG's i would recommend taking your now (should be) beefed up bankroll, and sitting down at some cash game tables. now first things first, i warn you to be very careful playing these as they boast (by far) the highest risk/reward ratio. all those months hard work playing SnG's could be flushed down the drain in a week or so playing cash games. my main reasoning for playing these second is that you should now have enough of a general understanding of the game to play these with a decent implied success rate. if you played these first, you would almost certainly go broke very quickly. another reason is that cash games are very distinctly different from tournament style play. mastering these will certainly add another level of depth to your overall play. also will have to learn bankroll management to be successful in these. i recommend starting at the .10/.25 cent tables, as the .05/.10 cent tables have double the rake. This factor can make it hard to earn money playing them. (note that you can easily skip cash game play if you do not feel comfortable with the high risk/reward ratio they present, as they are not a necessary skill for MTT's)
once you have mastered cash game play, some decide they like them so much that they do not desire to play much in the line of tournaments any more. well one big cash in a large MTT can throw those feeling right out the window (trust me). MTT's add yet another facet to the game. true they are similar in almost every way to STT's the only difference is that there is usually 20-150x the entrants. here you will have to survive generally 5x as long as the average STT. your main goal here is to make the final table (or two) to get any sort of a decent payout. otherwise, your bankroll will start to bleed $ at a steady rate (even with a high ITM%). BUT, a $5 risk can turn out a $1000 reward, so the risk reward ratio in these is (theoretically) high. but if you don't have some 5-6 hrs to devote to these then don't even bother.
lastly, i would play HU matches. this is not necessarily the best place to make a steady profit, as in my experience rely a good deal on luck. you can outplay someone the entire game, get them cornered ready to deal the final blow, and get sucked out on just to be right back where you started. from my experience these are not the best source of income. my main reasoning for playing these (at all) is just to hone your heads up skills. this can make all the difference at the end of that large MTT, in which the largest payout gap is between 1st and 2nd. besides just the payout gap, it is much more fulfilling to win a tournament than to finish runner up.
that pretty much sums up my feeling on the different covets of the game. i hope this helped and good luck on the felt. |

My 2 cents: Cash / Ring Games play cap tables to min. any loss.
SNG's play 6 or 9 player, 1 out of 3 get paid. Also, the
$5 90 player pays 20% of field.
Welcome and Good Luck at the Tables............ |
