So, I've managed to do pretty well at online poker since trying it out, so now I'm looking ahead to figuring out if there's potential for this to be a full time thing. The problem is, I just can't get the money to add up by playing single table SnGs, where I excel.

Looking around, it seems like the highest six handed games that fill consistently are the $20+2 games. Assuming I take first once every three games, second once every three, and don't cash in the other (which honestly is a pretty ambitious, probably unrealistic win expectation, at least on a consistent basis) that still leaves me with $120 in winnings and $66 in buy ins per three hours, or an hourly rate of $18/hr (assuming an average of one hour per SnG).

That's good, but when you take into account the high win expectation, and normal variance, it's not enough to "go pro."

This means I'll either have to

1. Get significantly involved in higher level MTTs (which essentially means learning a new game, because for whatever reason FTP offers no six handed MTT SnGs).

or

2. Learn to play multiple SnGs at once. How do people manage that? My route to success so far has been my ability to get solid reads on my opponents betting patterns and playing styles. I've managed to make a lot of calls/raises/folds already that left me thinking, "wow, I never could have done that without a good read."

The problem of course, is that as I add a second or even third table, it becomes increasingly difficult to watch betting patterns and manage table image, even with the ability to take notes on other players. How do people do it? Do they just play their game their way and say "to heck with it" when it comes to figuring out opponents? I'm lost.

I think it is still pretty easy to get reads playing 2 tables, assuming you are fairly experienced at the game in general playing one table. You are still folding most hands (at least early on), giving you plenty of time to keep track of what is going on at the tables. I play mostly 9 handed though, but still I think reads w/ 2 is pretty doable.

With more than 2, you may start to lose the more subtle reads, and may miss a few specific less subtle things, although the extreme lagtards will still make themselves obvious to you.

Also, there are some 6 handed MTTs on full tilt if you keep an eye out for them.

I definitely make it a habit to play in the SnGs when I see them, but they don't come up often enough (and the field sizes are too erratic) to really make them a "bread and butter" option.

It is easier to multi table 9 handed than 6 for obvious reasons. I found it hard to multi more than 2 with 6 players, although if you stagger them (start 2 together, then another one 20-35 minutes later) it can be done but you will lose just a little on reads. It takes practice mostly. I can build myself up to start 4 at once now and still have good reads

I have a difficult time multitabling SNGs. I have tried it a few times and it is definately -EV for me. It is not so bad during the first 15-20 minutes or so, but once all your tables start getting shorthanded and you have to make a bunch of crucial decisions at the same time is when I get screwed up. I can usually maneuver 2 tables at a time okay, but I really prefer just playing 1.

I don't play a ton of cash games but I find it not too difficult to multitable those, as the tables generally stay pretty full.
