Out, after an hour and 15 mins.
Massive disappointment, but I'm happy with my play. This guy had re-raised so many times that he just had to be applying a stupidly wide range. I'm happy with my shove here, and I think his call is on the OK side of borderline. His 3-bet is pretty silly though, as it prices him into calling my shove. Just a shame my hand didn't hold, but we don't cry about that sort of thing now do we?

just wondering...do you think 4-bet shoving with 88 is +EV? Especially with having a decent chip stack and small blinds, do you think it was necessary to shove after a raise and re-raise, knowing the guy had already priced himself into a call, when at best you're hoping to be in as a coinflip? |

I didn't HAVE to shove there, I accept that. I made the move after considering the following:
- The initial EP raiser had already folded to a couple of 3-Bets. He's only calling here with a monster, and it's fair to assume that his opening range is pretty light.
- The re-raiser seems ultra-aggro pre-flop. He may well have the same read on the EP raiser as me, and his 3-Betting activity prior to this hand convinces me that I'm ahead of his range here.
- I mentioned that he is priced in to call. This is only a marginal call, however. 2-1 odds with AQos, for roughly 30% of his stack, is by no means a standard call in that spot. What i meant was, his 3-bet was silly because it made calling a shove from myself or the EP raiser worthy of consideration, given his hand. When I shoved, I didn't know his hand. He could be playing a lower pair, sooted connectors, total air. His AQos is still foldable here, but plenty of hands in his range will fold instantly.
Of course, a good proportion of his range also calls and crushes me. Plus there's the possibility that the original raiser is serious, and the fact that my M still exceeds 30. I'm not unhappy with my move there, but nor am I delighted with it. It was mostly based on my read of the 3-bettor. |

Thanks for the support, guys. I'm really confident in my game right now, and all being well we'll get a good run in at least one of tonight's games.
I'll be signed in to AIM throughout the proceedings. If anyone wants to know my hole cards, thoughts etc then feel free to contact me. I'm LostOstrich1 on AIM.
It would be a great help if someone could talk me through the procedure for setting up a multi-way conversation on AIM, rather than having multiple windows though. |

Not the best first hour of an MTT that I've ever experienced.
I'm still playing, but with half the chips I started out with. The good news is, the table is pretty soft, and I think I can fight my way back into this one.
slms747 has set up an AIM chatroom for this, so feel free to join in. |
