Hi I am more a low stake tourney holdem player but I play a lot of hilo stud . What I would like to know is starting hands .I always call with 3 low cards. AA? I generally raise pre turn, KK? and QQ? I may call depending on position but normally fold . Is that correct? What about flush and straight draws . I always call now , at least see turn . Should I be calling raises on these hands too? I would be thankful for any help .

Well let me try my best.

With the high cards like AA KK QQ, It is better if they are the best high hand on the table on 3rd street and are hidden. You would raise with AA, because it has a pretty darn good chance of being the best high but you should be wary of the low hands coming in because it's always a ball buster for a 2 4 pair to beat your AA's.

You should only CALL with a flush if there preferably 1 of your flush cards on the table and a lot of people, because you would be drawing to a flush, which would take atleast 3 bets to see, and more then likely you would be drawing only for half the pot. This should be considered also for 3 to a straight high cards also.

Three to a straight low cards are good to play because they are 2 directional, they can go for high and for low. Depending on how low they are, they might deserve a raise on 3rd street. This also depends on what kind of player you are.

You should not call raises on 3 to a flush or high straight.

Hope this helps.

Calling the bring in or one raise seems pretty good when you have 3 low cards to begin with...just my own play but I never like to raise anything starting out until im one card to making my flush or low...this also depends highly on what other players are showing...also if you are playing extremely low in the money count the strategies vary.. Confused
