Is posting our strategy of play dangerous?

I have yet to run into any FT forum posters whilst playing, but aren't we giving up valuable INFORMATION when we discuss our strategies, weaknesses, strenghts, and anything else about our play???

I really don't think it makes a huge difference. 1) as you said, we don't meet up that often (except for a few of us that play together fairly often). 2) it's not that easy to apply what you read about their game to their actual action in a certain situation. Yes, I said I like to bluff when a scare card hits, but does that really mean I didn't hit it this time? etc.

In other words, I'm (clearly) not too worried about it.

well, i mean, none of us really give away our weaknesses (for instance, you don't know that i HATE it when... lol) plus, we discuss basic strategy that can't be applied to every situation you are in, and since poker is nothing but a situational game, sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling...

also, all the concepts shared in this forum may be out in the open, but it is up to the reader to apply everything they learn properly... if you cant apply it properly, then you might as well not learn the information shared here...

I've thought about that myself but it was only a fleeting thought as I agree with the other 2. Although, I can tell you that if I bet exactly what you have left...I may, or may not, be bluffing.

I think the only regular forum poster I've actually played against was Gypsydc in a $5 SNG once. I think I won that one but I don't think I ever played a hand against him. If I saw Jaconda or KGB or Jack at a table I think it would be fun to play against them, but good players vary their strategy enough that they never let on to a specific way that they play. Some do, but there are many winning strategies for different situations, just like KGB said. I'm never too worried about it.

a small addition to whats been said above.

most people that read this will not only not apply it correctly, but they dont even understand the basic premises of SNGs. people simply think in ring game mentality when they play in SNGs.

if you adopt a ring game mentality, you will lose 5-10% more in the long run, that is a guarantee.

value betting is less a factor in a SNG than a ring game. because if you're wrong, you're out, with no payday. It might be correct to bet 3/4 the pot in a ring game to make them incorrect for calling - if they are on a draw. but in a SNG you dont want them to call more than once, and when they do you need to punish them a lot more than a simple 3/4 pot bet, esp on the flop since implied odds make up for it.

there are 2 types of people

people that listen to what you say and interpret it
people that know what you mean

most people are the former.

therefore you dont have much to worry about. 1 concept wont win in a SNG anyhow.

I like to make my SNGs as long as possible once it gets to 4 handed, so that way i can exploit the skill level difference. over the short run, skill level can be trumped by luck. over the long run, luck is almost a moot point if you play correctly.

And let's not forget...even if we post what we normally do in certain circumstances with certain hands, and good poker player should be able to adapt to different situations and switch up their style of play.

I almost never run into anyone from the forum outside of our weekly tournaments. During the rest of the week, our regular posters are spread out over a wide variety of games and limits.

It is true that each of us could be giving away a little bit of advantage for our weekly tournaments by discussing our strategy. Personally, I don't worry about that for two reasons:

    1. I think that our discussions here improve my play against other (non-forum) opponents significantly more than it hurts my play against our forum players, and I'm playing against non-forum players the majority of the time.

    2. Our weekly forum tournaments are the only times of the week that my focus is not primarily on building my bankroll. I generally make more money in my first half-hour of play on the ring tables than first place pays in our HORSE tournaments. I don't know about the rest of you, but I enjoy our forum tournaments for the chance to play against other players who are serious students of the game, and for the sheer pleasure of playing against people I like.

Don't get me wrong..... it's not that I don't care about winning our forum tournies, because I do! If anything, those are the tournaments I want to do the best in. It's just that the gratification comes from the challenge, not from the money I make. I spend all week taking money from the fishies..... but it sure is nice to have a couple days a week where I don't worry about my pocket aces getting cracked by some idiot who wants to prove that 7-2 offsuit really can win Wink
