|
|
| I know in tournaments when two players are all in before the flop, they flip their cards and then run the board; but in a live cash game when two players are all in preflop do they flip the cards before or after the board is dealt? On Pstars it waits until the board comes. If so who is the first person to show? The first person to the left of the button if there is no betting? and if there is betting, then the first person to bet and get called, or the last person to raise and get called shows first? |

I have only been to one casino, but I am sure it is standard. When I was all in preflop (in a limit game uggg, but came back and ended up a few bucks) I was called by one player. I flipped my cards up then he did, then the board was dealt.
The last player to make an aggressive move to the pot (betting/raising) has to flip their cards over first, then it goes clockwise around the table. But if you want to flip up your cards in an incorrect order I don't think it matters at all except that the other players might muck their hands before you get a look. |

| Nothing makes a player look like a poser than refusing to show his or her cards until the other player has shown theirs. Just show the cards, already. You'd never see a seasoned pro hesitate to show their cards until the other player showed theirs. Just flip them up, even if you got caught bluffing. "Can you beat 8 high?" |

| I was just wondering, because once I turn 21 and play in my first live cash game and am all in with aces or kings before the flop and the guy calls, I didn't want to look like a jerk flipping my cards before the board is dealt if that's against the rules or something...... |

Observation is a wonderful thing.
You might get seated right away, but you may have to wait for a seat. Maybe you should just watch from the rail for a bit. Watch what is happening. Look on the walls of the cardroom for a list of rules. That sort of thing. Chances are you'll figure it out before you need to worry about it.
If all else fails expose yourself for the casino newbie you are and ask the dealer. (This will also cause many at the table to believe you are a poker moron, which you should be able to exploit.) |

Etiquette aside, I always thought the rule was:
Cash game - you don't have to show until the river, and then if you're the caller and lose you can muck.
Tournament - cards have to be flipped before hand continues. |

I think your questions have already been answered but I couldn't resist putting my two cents in.
In live cash games players do not flip over their hands and they may muck them without showing as long as any player involved in that hand doesn't request to see them.
In tourney's the all in hands are flipped up before the dealer spreads the remaining cards on the board.
In both games, however, the person who was the last to check, bet or (re)raise is the first to show. This may change from place to place. I have delt in some card rooms that prefer to start with the hand to the left of the dealer button and I worked at some who enforces the 'last to act' rule.
However, for the most part it has been my experience that this issue is rarely tested simply because seasoned players usually are not that petty. |
