Are there any good books about playing Razz? I have tried reading some of the websites, but I only find the basic rules and no strategy.
Thanks,

The best book written on Razz was "Sklansky on Razz". It is out of print. However, the book in its entirety (it was short) is a part of "Sklansky on Poker". Happy reading.

Howard or any other pro here for that matter...
What do you think on Phil Hellmuths section on Razz in his Playing poker like the pros book? I have used his ideas to turn my game around, but I have had really no other input on how sound his strategies are. Any input would be great. |

It's fine, except that part about calling 2 bets cold on 4th with a bad one is not very good. Pretty much all the material out there on razz is rehashing sklansky on razz |

| Hellmuth's section is better than I first thought, although it might be a little loose for some situations. You won't find much material that contradicts Sklansky however. |

| There is always the essential, 'Super/System' Joey Hawthorne wrote the section on lowball which includes razz. It definately has some great insights on razz, of course the whole book in general is a must have for any player. |

| As Howard pointed out, "Sklansky on Poker" has the entire body of "Sklansky on Razz" inside. Not only is it a terrific Razz book, it has a ton of great poker theory ideas that can be applied to other games. |

I found a new book on amazon about Razz poker....helped me a lot. I liked the Sklansky book a lot as well, although this new book fits the online games better.
It's called Play Razz poker to win. |

Interesting. I noticed that book, but I didn't take it too seriously. The author seems to be primarily a NLHE player, and they typically make the worst razz players until they can be retrained. Sklansky's book (which when it was first published 25 years ago was really the first book dedicated to razz poker) does discount a lot of the maniacs you will find at low and microstakes online games, so you will need other sources to be truly successful there.
What sort of limits do you play, thatslife1969? |

usually at the $5/$10 level, and sometimes higher.
Thanks--I already had the Sklansky book from a long time back, and I even found an old SS book which had 7 pages on Razz.
I think the newer book is better to beat the online game players. It helps me to stay out of trouble and at the same time punish the crazy players. Seems like new info to me.
Since I had a nice Razz winning streak--I added the Full Tilt strategy guide....should be arriving soon!
Thanks again for everyone's help....Funny, I like playing HORSE, but Razz was my weak link...I think all this studying is paying off. |

It's not unusual for new posters to repost a message when they get an error and think it didn't actually get posted. This forum can be pretty buggy like that. Of course, I'm not sure how old/new the guy really is, but I don't remember seeing him at any 5/10 tables. Maybe we are just on different schedules. Either way, I look forward to playing him sometime and seeing what useful things he may have learned. |

| Yeah, I got an error message...so I tried again and it worked. I run into the same players over and over again with Razz, I moved over to another site for the tourneys. The problem with Razz is there are not enough new players--seems like the same people all the time. Maybe we need a Razz poker group on Facebook to get some more interest. |
