This was just the last hand of my play on FTP, it's not the worst, just typical of what's been happening for two weeks.

Flop open ended straight draw, turn gives me a straight, river gives calling station a house. Flop trips, turn gives miracle inside straight to calling station with 69o.

Every so often this happens on FTP - can't win a hand when ahead.

I think I am a half decent player, and have been improving - won a couple of Freerolls. 2nd out of 140 in a 5.50 just two weeks ago. Then the bottom falls out.

In late October, late December, and again this past week there is nothing but loss after loss.

P.S. - Went to AC twice last week in the midst of this, won 238 bucks at 2/4 limit in Resorts after 6 hours, and won 58 bucks in 4 hours at Bellagio 2/4 limit. Won 4 out of 5 times so far at live casino. Is it me?

The only thing I can be critical of in your play is the preflop raise which was not even 2.5x the BB.

Your hand was good enough to bet at least 3.5 to 4x the BB. Chances are he would call with AQ anyway though, but whenever I have AK I move stronger than I would with Aces because I can beat fewer hands and don't have a made hand yet so I want anybody with less than my hand to dump it right then and there.

I also think it would have been ok to go all in after the flop. He would have HAD to have folded right then and there without any hand. You had top pair top kicker and were heads up. Move him in and go with it.

Think you played this hand fairly well. A lot of people get absolutely no value out of big starting hands because they go nuts and push. I would have popped to 3/4ths the pot on the flop, something like 900 would have been a better bet. Moving on the turn if he calls you is a no brainer . . . why he called you on the flop is beyond me . . . the man with the AQ played his hand about as bad as he could have. Don't worry about this one.

As far as raising 3-4x the BB...I like to vary my raises. Sometimes I'll raise 2.5x, sometimes I'll raise 5x, just depends on what my past betting patterns have been. A lot o players subconciously raise 3x with a marginal hand, and then raise 4x with strong holdings, a good player can see this and will pick you off. Either raise 4x EVERY time, or randomly mix it up...2.5, 3, 4.5, 5 . . .

that is so true, too many many people get into betting patterns. 3-4x bb with a-k is so common or - all in with a-k. then they get aa and only bet 2xbb. then they cant figure out why they lose.

just last month i was playing 1/2 nl live sat down with the only $100(max 200) and there was guy with over $800 in front. after 20mins 3 of us at the table caught on to his betting patterns, $12 raise with a-k, a-q, k-q. $16 raises with pockets. limp or $6 raises with kk, aa. (he also was showing his hands after winning preflop for bragging rights)

within 50mins me and my friend busted him out he got up and left with $40

betting patterns are the worst trap u can get yourself into in poker because i guareentee you, at least 2 people at your table are watching it.

i now i have busted alot of players on a-k with hands like 4-7os just becasue i know exactly what they have and if i hit, and i know if they cant lay a-k down, there money is mine.
