You had 9,7,5,2,A

He had 9,6,5,4,2

9-6 is lower than 9-7.

OK.... So
My 2 is lower then his 4, and my A is lower then his 2. Dont really get it.

SO basicly because his 6 beat my 7 my A2 against his 24 is ****.

Remember, in razz or any low game, the best hand is A2345, the wheel. KA234 would not result in a tie though you have the same low 4 cards. It's not the lowest 2 that you go off of, but the lowest 5 cards starting from the top on down. For example; 9988432 would still beat KQJ432A because of the 9 low compared to the Jack low.

Killjoy, as you said in your second post, his 6 beats your 7 in Razz.

If they were holdem hands, who wins? You with:

9 7 5 2 A (where the ace plays as a low card)

or

9 6 5 4 2?

You would agree that 97 is higher than 96, right?

OP, most poker games involve a 5-card poker hand. You can't just pick 2 or 3 cards to state your case.

In razz, you need to use your 5 lowest valued cards. Yours is 97xxx, and his is 96xxx. His is lower, so he wins. It's that simple.

oh well.... just really starting to play and learn the game. i was just goin off of lowest hand,,, and thats how it is stated on your HOW TO PLAY guide. No where is it stated that you should count down from left to right. All that it states is Lowest Hand will win. So as i figured, if i go A-9 and he goes 2-9 I should win cause i am sitting with the LOWEST hand persay with the Ace. Plus the fact that if you want to say 9,7 loses to 9,6 well i could offset that and say as i did, My A,2, should have been lower ( and IS lower ) than his 2,4. I had 2 cards lower then his, and because he had 1 card lower then me he wins. Just doesnt make ANY sence at all. But oh well, take it as a learning lesson i guess.

And also it should be changed in your HOW to play sectoin of your site. If the best hand is A2345 it should be listed as
5432A that would help new people learn that hands arent read A2345 they are read the exact oppisite.

so ya, his
9,6,5,4,2 wins against
9,7,5,2,A

Killjoy, it might make figuring Razz hands easier if you pick the 5 best cards for your hand and treat each card as a numeral.

Your hand was 97,521 (treating the ace as a one).

Your opponent's hand was 96,542.

Mathematically, 96,542 < 97,521 so your opponent wins the hand. Obviously this doesn't work well for King-Ten cards, but if you're getting to showdown with 3 Ten+ cards, you've gotten hosed on 5th, 6th, and 7th.

That is true I didn't read anything about how to read the cards in the QuickPlay or the Comprehensive. Maybe FT should update this to include how to read your cards and how to tell if yours wins or not. They aren't very clear...all they say is that A2345 is the lowest hand possible. But as everyone has stated, it goes highest to lowest. 96 beats the 97.

Best way to learn how the hands win/lose of course is to just play awhile. Go start with the 10/20 tables on the chips site. Not too hard to tell what hands win/lose after you watch a few hands.

The 'math' example above (5 digit number, lowest wins) is a great explanation too. And yes, it is strange that you can start with A23 and end up losing with 9832A to 97654, but that's the game.
