I had to assume I was up against another 23, certainly hearts, and a set or two, and that my A was not going anywhere for high.

Turned out to be a horrible fold, but I think I played it correctly. And these guys suck.

I think you played it right. If a two or three came out, your low would be gone, and the two you would have would probably be too weak. With that many people in the hand it is a good assumption that you're up against another 2-3. I think it was a good fold overall. It's easy to look back and wish you played the hand, but with so many other possibilities out there, if you played it again in the same situation, you'll probably lose a substantial amount of chips.
