Michael Craig recently blogged about Andy Bloch's hobby of collecting old poker books. 18 Months ago, Michael suggested to Andy that he should buy a first edition Sklansky 'Holdem Poker' as a reward for coming in 2nd at the 2006 WSOP Horse event. However, Michael didn't think that Andy actually ever purchased it and suggests it's because Andy is ... well, cheap.

Being a general cheapskate myself, I have to defend Andy's reputation here. I recently got Video on Demand for my DirecTV Satellite system. One of the downloadable channels is 'The Players Network'. There are lots of progams detailing how to play casino games and previewing Vegas shows. There are also a few 'behind the scenes' reels from the 2006 WSOP. Andy Bloch was nice enough to take the cameras into his home for a little tour. During this tour, Andy Bloch proudly displays, low and behold, a first edition Sklansky 'Holdem Poker'. I never knew it was so 'thin'. Andy Bloch appropriately describes it as 'more of a pamphlet than a book'.

Thank you Andy for taking us into your home and dispelling this evil rumor that you are cheap. As a fellow 'man of value', it was my pleasure to set the record straight. I understand that we don't need to throw money around on overly expensive trinkets just to feel macho. Besides, my wife buys me all the good stuff anyway.

Edit: I found a copy of the video in the google video library. I'm posting the link below. The pertinent portion occurs at the 4:25 mark.
