Phill Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Patrick Antoinius are 3 that spring to mind.
Daniel is known for his readng skills, and thats fair enough - but he is known more so because he says it outloud. There are plenty of other players who can read people like a book as well, they just not to announce it verbally.
As for the poster who says player of the year is bigger than main event title, sorry I have to disagree. The Main event is practically a lottery now, and I think the percentage wise difference in winning it through luck is a lot higher than the rough 80/20 skill luck factor most people belive in in poker, but you still require some sort of aptitude to beat a field of 9000. |

I can see how you may not like Daniel Negreanu's personality and chattiness as sometimes it can be cheesy, and rehearsed sometimes, but to downsize his accomplishments thus far in his career is laughable! Over $10 million in live prize money, and his ability to read people is SICK not to mention him being able to tell your exact whole cards suits and all quite frequently.I'd certianly take his abilities, dont know how you wouldn't sir .But to each his own I guess |

Well, your dislike for Humberto is pretty obvious when you said this:
| Quote: |
| 1:06 PM – Humberto makes some bet on the turn (after K-5-6-T) right after Huck beats Chip and is walking around. Laak asks if he can show Huck his hand. Humberto, “Show it to anybody? TJ?” The announcer says that’s not allowed. Humberto puts on the jester hat and gets into Phil’s face, making some noises. Laak is acting like he’s going to respond by pushing all-in. Brenes wanders the floor with his shark. Laak moves all-in and Humberto instantly calls. But he doesn’t do anything “instantly,” making it impossible to figure out what’s on the board or what cards. The clown has 5-6 for two pair. Laak has K-9 for top pair. Laak doesn’t get help on the river and, disgustingly, Humberto advances. It takes a lot to make poker look stupid, but Humberto has managed it. |
You have a much better insight into the poker world and the players, but those are some harsh words. Yes, Humberto is a "ham" and plays up to the cameras, but anytime I have seen him on TV, the players at the table seem to enjoy his presence. You appear to be a poker purist with an old school mentality about the game so I understand your perspective; however, I feel that the wide spectrum of personalities that come together to play the game is part of what makes it great.
Also, I was hoping to hear your feelings about the following comment you made in your blog:

| Humberto is supposed to be a nice man and a gentleman, but I have some problems with his TV act, enough that I'd hug Daniel Negreanu if it would end Humberto's run. |
Maybe I am reaching on this one, but it sounds like you have a problem with Negreanu as well. It could be some personal issue that you would rather not discuss, but I was hoping to hear more about this... |
Well, it's going on 1 year that Michael Craig hasn't bothered to respond to this well thought out, and legitimate question that Deadstock poses.
I find it ironic that you refer to Humberto Brenes as a clown, when obviously this is a case of the Pot Calling The Kettle Black, don't you think?
Go away, and take your Forum with you, Mr. Craig. |

| you've got to be joking by saying Daniel has done so well over his career by being "hot". Have you ever watched him play? He's absolutley amazing how he can just look you dead in the face and say what you have and what you are going to do. You might as well go as far as saying Ivey and Cunningham are overrated as well. These guys grew up playing cards have feelings that not many people in the world posess. |
