If I have a made low hand on 6th street, and no one has more than two low cards showing, I will bet, or re-raise a high hand who's betting. Makes sense so far, right? What doesn't make sense to me is the people who have only a low draw (i.e., they know they have virtually no chance of making the high hand) who call that bet. Unfortunately, all too often they make a better low than mine on the river.
It seems to me that, unless the pot is really huge, making that call, just to get half the pot, is not sensible. In the same situation I'll fold every time. Which of us is wrong? Me, or the person who calls my bet with that just that low draw? |

| If it's a multi-way pot it depends. Let's say it was completed on 3rd with 4 players remaining in the pot so there's about 5 whole bets in the pot. Let's say that there was one bet from a player and everyone stuck around to 6th. There'd be around 25 bets into the pot and it'd only cost your opponent a double bet to have a chance to take half the pot ( around 12 bets ), so he's getting about 6;1 to take half the pot. If he's stuck around that long with a mediocre hand, then he's gotta call 6th if he's drawing live. |
