Hey just wanted to share my thoughts really quickly- I sell points and just find this stuff interesting so I spend a lot of time in this section-

Everyone seems to be doing a better job of clarifying fund swap requests (Have x Need y) as the mods suggested, but it can definitely be improved

Also- to clamper or another mod- can the stickies and/or announcements at the top be combined at all? Not to be picky but it seems cluttered and I have to scroll down just to see the actual posts

Sorry if this seems trivial, and maybe I should have just PMed clamper, but I thought maybe someone else might have thoughts to add

Thanks!

it would be really nice if everyone was clearer about what they want.

its not that hard to say "i have money on stars, i need FT money"

if you say "i need to trade $20 FT for $20 stars" it can mean you have FT or stars, its impossible to know.

its so much easier that way, if people who trade often did it like that others might start doing like that.

I'm glad you brought this up.

I agree that the sticky/announcement section could used some streamlining. I've been mulling it over, trying to find the best way to present the important information, but keep it simple enough so that all (okay, at least some) of the new traders will at least look at it.

The scammers are still finding it worthwhile to ply their trade here. I'm sure that if we put our heads together and tweak things a bit, then they'll find it much harder to succeed.

I'll propose first that the regulars try to establish that account names be posted with each trade request. It's vital to compare those names with the accounts used by alleged scammers, and to add them to the list if an alleged scam occurs.

Just as important is an admonishment to conduct all trades in the open forum. No IM, PM, or email.

Scammers don't want their names known. If you see a new member post without that info, or offers IM, PM, etc, then a gentle and earnest reply pointing out the dangers might sway them to a safer method of trading.

Those two steps alone will go a long way towards precluding most bad trades.

Secondly, a consolidation of the Alleged Scammers List, Trading Guidelines and Selecting A Partner guide into one locked and stickied thread would reduce the clutter.

Next, a consolidation of the information in the following threads should help.
Beware who you purchase items from!
Alleged Scammers List
Rules & Legit Sellers List

They contain valuable information, but also many posts that aren't useful.

The sheer volume of all that reading is probably discouraging many newbies from performing proper research.

Perhaps some judicious pruning is in order, with an eye towards retaining access to the relevant information, but creating a 'click here' starting point for the newbies

I welcome all comments and suggestions.

Looks good Clamper, the announcement is the first thing you see now, directing newcomers (like myself) to first read the guidelines and fraud list. Thanks for all your work!

Edit: is there a way of creating a forum within the forum to move completed transaction threads to?

not a bad idea, but the completed transactions wil just filter to the bottom anyway when noone replies again.

I just think that the way the stickies and such are titled overlaps- I think Trading Guidelines could easily include the How to Find a Partner thread and the Paypal thread

"Rules and Legit Sellers" has rules that arent exactly in effect (the Guidelines above are more applicable) and it also has negative feedback- if posters could put positive or negative feedback therre then there would be no need for an Alleged Scammer List- people could just check someones credibility in one place, the list just needs updating (did it myself a few times, then Deadstock said he would do it regularly...)

EDIT- the rules are still applicable- I just mean that if someone is new are they going to click on Rules or Guidelines? maybe neither because it seems lie too much stuff

Recent changes

The ability to edit your post in this section is now restricted to mods and admin. This was done to preserve useful information posted in past trades.

If you need your post edited, please contact a mod.

The Alleged Scammers List, Trading Guidelines, and Selecting A Partner guide have been incorporated into the new Announcement thead at the top of this section.

I've added an outline regarding the sale of points.

One thing I think would be a good idea in the long run is this:

Similar to how our names get titles such as forum pro etc... add into the name area an amount of succesfull trades. Have this glaring out in a seperate colour from everything else so it gets noticed. On the flip side any name linked with a scammer IP should have in bold "SCAMMER". I realise this would take a bit of work and some updating on a (bi-weekly or monthly basis) but in the long run would probably save people from being scammed. Anyways just my 2 cents.

I like the combining of the Stickies, but does that mean there is no Legit Sellers list anymore? In my opinion all it needed was more constant updating- I like the system or something like it becasue as a seller I have gotten used to saying "I have multiple references in this thread, check them out if you want"
I guess people can still infer trustworthiness from postcount and stuff but I rather liked the references showing who is an established seller

to expand on the legit list i would be more work for clamper or who ever is going to take care of the list is, as it was before the thread got real long and cluddered so i think you should make a sticky legit list with just the names of legit sellers. say like, i just made a successful transaction, so i pm who ever takes care of the list that such and such is legit and mybe a brief detail of transaction.then who ever takes care of the list just edits it as needed.
this way someone who want to do a transaction doesnt have to look through 7 pages of" i vouch for ...". same could be done for scammers and also regulars who wouldnt mind being middlemen/women. hope this makes sence Smile
