I received an invitation to attend Howard Lederer's Poker Camp, which was held in Las Vegas a while ago. The poker training camp is one of a kind. It is a combination of small poker training sessions, followed by live action tournaments. Participants receive instruction from some of the world's most respected professional poker players.

The formal poker training is held in the mornings. These sessions are taught through lectures followed by live question and answer. Most of the presenters incorporated PowerPoint slides into their presentations. Each presenter spoke for approximately 30 to 40 minutes, then left a generous 20 minutes for audience questions.

Although the presentations were very informative, I particularly enjoyed the audience participation component. All of the formal presentations were scripted -- meaning that the pro's basically followed their outlines.

However, during the audience participation the presenters REALLY opened up. Camp participants were able to learn a lot about professional poker player psychology. This was the sort of information that can't really be communicated effectively in books (or information that a pro player may not want to publish). Personally, this information was the most valuable part of the camp. Where else can you ask somebody like Howard Lederer which pro player he most fears at poker tournaments and why? (Answer: Gus Hanson).

The camp was costly, but it was most definetly worth it. I learned a lot about No Limit Holdem, as well as Omaha, and Razz.
I mainly attended this camp to learn more about the dynamics of Razz. I have been playing razz for 8 years now and really enjoy the game. I understand most people see it as a "joke game", but I have made more money at it than holdem. So basically, I am offering to tutor anyone in the art of Razz for $7/hr. I willincorporate things I learned from the camp as well as my strategies and tips. Anyone interested please post here or leave me a pm. Hopefully my lessons will help you increase your bankroll via razz.

Very interesting trip report. Was this the HORSE camp that I saw advertised? IIRC Mark Seif was slated as the instructor for the razz portion. Either way, it sounds like you got a lot out of the experience and if nothing else learned not to tangle with Gus Hanson (unless the game is razz, that is Wink

)

I can tell you from first hand experience that the market for razz instruction is small because of the game's reputation and the lack of action compared to HE. I'm certainly doing all I can to help with both of these problems, and respect you for doing the same. There are a lot of razz players out there who need the help so if you're willing to work with beginning players at such a reasonable rate then good on ya.

Because I am not extremely experienced in NL tournament poker play, I can honestly say that I learned quite a bit from the presentations.

Yea, whoever scored the most points (the tournaments we played were based on a points system) was asked to write a short synopsis on the camp for $100. I tried to capture the most important and exciting parts of the camp in my article.

Nevermind the -EV aspect of teaching Razz at $7 per hour. Let's just hope that after investing $3,499 plus a trip to Las Vegas that one would know enough to earn more than that playing instead of teaching.

(scam): First, he tried to make a prop bet with me. (When I asked him to sit at a table with some money he then left..)

Little strange, only one FTP name is allowed and clamper13 is naming all these people I do not know that are not me and trying to fit pieces together that don't belong. Believe what you wish people, but the truth is... clamper just sits around all day on forums belittling people and making himself look more trusted. I know of a few threads he has ruined. Some perfectly respectable players have made transaction posts and clamper sticks his nose where it doesnt belong and tells people he is a potential scammer...... so how reliable is this loser's word?
